Baseball Welcomes New Coaches for 2020 Season

Peacocks add two assistant coaches for the spring campaign

JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's University baseball team and head coach Lou Proietti have announced the addition of two new assistant coaches. Casey Aubin and Lucas Luopa join the Peacocks following successful careers at the University of Massachusetts and Franklin Pierce University, respectively.

Aubin comes to Saint Peter's after an impressive career with the Minutemen. During his senior year in 2019, the right-handed pitcher made 16 appearances primarily out of the bullpen. The New Hampshire native recorded a team-high five saves in 2019 while also finishing with a 2-0 record. Aubin finished the year with 31 strikeouts and a 1.00 ERA, allowing just three earned runs all year. He has coached the USA Mavericks out of Newington, New Hampshire, for the past two years, and he will work closely with the pitchers and serve as the Peacocks' Recruiting Coordinator.

"We are very excited to add Casey to the coaching staff as our Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator," said Proietti. "Not only did Casey have a very impressive playing career, he came highly recommended as someone who will not be outworked when it comes to recruiting, developing pitchers and helping our program reach an NCAA regional tournament. He will be instrumental in providing the pitchers the support they need in order to compete at the highest level in the MAAC."

Aubin is originally from Lee, New Hampshire, and currently resides in Somerville, New Jersey.

Luopa arrives in Jersey City after serving as an assistant coach for perennial NCAA Division II contender Franklin Pierce during the during the 2018 and 2019 seasons; he also graduated from Franklin Pierce and spent one season as a member of the baseball program in 2017. While coaching this past spring, Luopa guided the hitters and outfielders and was part of a coaching staff that led the Ravens to a strong finish in the postseason that culminated with a Northeast-10 Conference tournament title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. In his final season as a player, Luopa slashed .312/.380/.416 with seven doubles and a home run while tallying 64 total bases; he also scored 31 runs while recording 20 RBIs on the year.

"Lucas has been an outstanding addition for us," said Proietti. "He will serve as our hitting coach, work with outfielders and will take on recruiting responsibilities. His experience as both a player and coach at high quality programs will be extremely valuable to our program."

Luopa is originally from Keene, New Hampshire, and currently resides in nearby Hoboken.
