NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Saint Peter's University track and field teams returned to action on Friday for their first meet of the 2020 calendar year, competing in the Ramapo Opener at The Armory in New York. Several Peacocks shined in what was arguagly the team's top performance thus far.
Top Performances: Men
- Freshman Jabari Higgs-Salaam won the long jump event at 6.80 meters. As of the conclusion of the event, his mark is currently the fourth-best in the MAAC and the best for a freshman.
- Freshman Jarrett Gentles followed up a top-10 placement at the Great Dane Invite with a runner-up finish in the 500-meter dash, clocking in at 1:06.60. His time is the fourth-fastest time in the MAAC for the event as of Friday.
- Freshman Michael Conover was also a runner-up finisher in the 800-meter race. He was one of five runners to complete the race in under two minutes, at 1:57.52. Fellow freshman Clardo Nestor, also competed in the event and placed in the top-10 at 2:01.97.
- Sophomore Daniel Jn-Baptiste placed in the top-10 in the 60-meter dash as he crossed the finish line in 7.14 seconds, three-hundredths of a second faster than his previous time in the event at the Great Dane Invite. He also came in the top-five in the 200-meter dash by clocking in at 22.76 seconds.
- Freshman Isaiah Sanchez was also in the 200-meter dash and placed in the top-10 by running in 23.05 seconds.
- The combination of Jn-Baptise, Nestor, Conover, and freshman Kyle Estivene, finished in the top-three out of 16 teams in the 4x400-meter relay. The quartet finished in 3:26.95.
- Freshman Jayaire King secured a top-10 finish in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.78 seconds.
- Freshman Jamir Shockley earned a top-15 finish in the 400-meter dash in a field of over 30 competitors. He would finish the event in 52.72 seconds.
- To round out the field events, freshman Dylan Powell attained a top-five placement in the weight throwing competition as he threw for 13.99 meters. Fellow freshman Matthew Defilippis finished in the top-10 in the shot put event as he threw for 12.60 meters.
Top Performances: Women
- Senior Ohunene Albert had another stupendous race as she took the 60-meter dash in 7.90 seconds. Right behind her was freshman teammate Loretta Owoh who crossed in 8.16 seconds.
- Ohunene Albert was the runner-up in the 200-meter dash as she clocked in at 25.99 seconds. Her senior teammate Victoria St. John placed in the top-10 in a field of over 40 competitors. St. John crossed in 27.16 seconds.
- In a close finish, senior Avosuahi Albert was the runner-up in the 400-meter dash in 57.52 seconds. She was just three-thousandths of a second behind the winner. Freshman Tiyauna Evans also participated in the event and earned a top-10 placement with a time of 1:02.09.
- The team of freshmen Tola Osipitan, Janai Orders, Tiyauna Evans, and senior Avosuahi Albert, completed a top-five finish in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:11.12.
- On the field, Owoh earned a top-five placement in the long jump as she jumped for 5.04 meters. Senior Rachael Johnson placed in the top-five in a field of nearly 20 competitors in the shot put event. She threw for 10.64 meters.
