EDISON, NJ - Following a career-game at Iona on Friday night, Saint Peter's men's basketball freshman guard,
Daryl Banks III has been honored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) as the Pepsi Zero Rookie of the Week, announced by the league office today.
Banks had the best game of his Saint Peter's career in the MAAC opener against Iona on Friday night, scoring a career-high 25-points, the most points in a game by any Peacock this season, and making the game-winning layup at the buzzer to beat the four-time defending MAAC champions. The Los Angeles, CA native also recorded career-bests of five rebounds, two assists, and two steals, while connecting on 8-of-16 field goals, 3-of-8 three-pointers, and going 6-for-7 from the line, all career-highs in makes. On Sunday, he made his second consecutive appearance in the starting lineup, scoring eight points in the 66-40 blowout win over Marist.
Banks finished the perfect 2-0 week for Saint Peter's as the team's scoring leader, averaging 16.5 points per game, while also posting averages of 2.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.0 steals.
Banks becomes the third Peacock in the last four weeks to win the MAAC Rookie of the Week award, joining twin brothers
Fousseyni Drame and
Hassan Drame who claimed the awards on Dec. 16 and Dec. 23 respectively.
He is joined by Tykei Green of Manhattan, who was named as the MAAC Player of the Week.
Banks and the Peacocks are back in action this Thursday, Jan. 9, when they travel to Albany to take on Siena.
