Peacocks announce addition of three incoming freshmen for next season

JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's University softball team and head coach Christopher Stelma announced today the signing of three freshmen to the program for the beginning of the 2022 season. The three players all hail from the northeast, with Connecticut, Maryland, and Pennsylvania being represented in the class of 2025.

"We have added some pretty strong classes over the last few years," said Stelma. "The class of 2021 features two pitchers and an outfielder.  We are hopeful that all three players can come in and make an immediate impact for us on the field.  We are happy to add them to the Peacock family and can't wait to see them on campus!"

SB NLI 2021Dakota Pitts | Pitcher | Abington, MD | Patterson Mill High School

Before Saint Peter's: During her time in Abington, Pitts has served as a three-year starter at Patterson Mill, while also earning valuable club experience with the Churchville Lightning. The Maryland native has racked up various accolades in her three years at Patterson Mill, including two First Team All-County selections following her freshman and sophomore seasons, as well as two team MVP awards following the same years. Additionally, following her sophomore campaign, Pitts earned Second Team All-Metro honors.

Coach Stelma on Pitts: "Dakota is a fearless competitor in the circle.  She is a big game pitcher and we look forward to getting her into some close games to watch her compete.  She will round out our pitching staff."

SB NLI 2021Lexi Ross | Outfield | Chester, CT | Valley Regional High School

Ross joins the Peacocks following a strong career at Valley Regional. Following her sophomore year, Ross was named to the First Team Shoreline Conference after maintaining a .645 batting average throughout the course of the 2019 season, while also tallying 23 stolen bases. The stat line also earned the Chester native Offensive Player of the Year honors at the conclusion of 2019. Along with her time spent at Valley Regional, Ross picked up additional experience playing travel ball with the CT Eliminators.

Coach Stelma on Ross: "We are excited to get Lexi on campus.  She is a top of the lineup type of hitter who can get on base and run.  She is a good defensive outfielder and looks to try to break into the top of our lineup and provide some run scoring production for us."

SB NLI 2021Kasidy Slusser | Pitcher | Hanover Township, PA | Hanover Area High School

Another experienced addition to the Peacocks roster, Slusser arrives in Jersey City following a strong career with Hanover Area High School. A three-year starter heading into her senior season, the Hanover native has also competed at an elite travel level during her high school career with PA Stripes and Strikes. Slusser has experienced ample success at Hanover over the past three seasons, including selections to the 2018 and 2019 First Team All-Star teams following her freshman and sophomore seasons.

Coach Stelma on Slusser: "We anticipate Kasidy having an immediate impact on our pitching staff.  We have seen her throw a lot against Division 1 caliber summer teams and she always performs.  She is someone we are hoping to hand the ball to for the next four years and watch her take us to the next level."
