Track & Field Competes at Metropolitan Championships

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Saint Peter's University track and field teams returned to Ocean Breeze on Thursday and Friday for the two-day Metropolitan Championships.
The Peacocks took to the track against a variety of schools from the northeast, including conference foes such as Iona, Manhattan and Marist. Several Peacocks set new personal bests in certain events to highlight the meet.  

Top Performances - Men
  • Sophomore Daniel Jn-Baptiste placed in the top-10 in the 60 meters with a time of 7.15. He was also a top-15 finisher in a field of more than 40 competitors in the 200 meters. He clocked in at 22.46.
  • Right behind Jn-Baptiste in the 200 meters was freshman Isaiah Sanchez who set a personal record by running in 22.59 seconds.
  • Freshman Jarrett Gentles continued his outstanding season with a top-10 finish in the 400 meters at 49:56, a personal best in the event. It was the first time he came in under 50 seconds and his time is currently sixth-best in the MAAC.
  • Freshman Jamir Shockley earned top-15 honors in the 500 meters as he finished in 1:07.80, two seconds faster than his previous two showings in the event this year.
  • Freshman Clardo Nestor was a top-10 finisher in the 800 meters after crossing the line in exactly 1:57.
  • Freshmen Kyle Estivene and Jayaire King both had two of the top performances in the 60 hurdles. Estivene finished in 8.66 seconds, while King finished in 8.80 seconds.
  • Freshman Matthew Defilippis placed in the top-15 in the shot put as he threw for 12.82 meters, a personal record.
Top Performances - Women
  • Senior Avosuahi Albert was a top-five finisher in the 400 meters as she crossed the line in 56.96.
  • Avosuahi Albert and freshman Vernetta Gosier finished back-to-back within the top-10 in the 200 meters. Albert completed the race in 25.37 seconds while Gosier was two-hundredths of a second behind her at 25.39.
  • Gosier also posted one of the top times in the 60 hurdles competition, completing in 9.43 seconds, representing her best showing in the event thus far.
  • Freshman Tola Osipitan also competed in the 400 meters for the first time in her collegiate career and came in the top-25, clocking in at 1:02.64.
  • Freshman Kaylah Davis attained her best finish in the 500 meters, crossing the line in 1:24.40. Right behind her was junior Lovely Francois who improved dramatically from her previous performance in the event. Francois finished in 1:27.32, nearly ten seconds faster than her outing at the Ramapo Opener.
  • Freshman Loretta Owoh earned a top-15 finish in the long jump event, posting a distance of 5.14 meters, a personal best.
  • In a field of more than 30 competitors, freshman Xiomari Battle came in the top-10 in the shot put. She threw for 12.09 meters, which was her best performance in the event this season.
