JERSEY CITY, NJ - Saint Peter's University Athletics has announced that freshman women's swimmer
Efrat Marom and fellow rookie men's track & field sprinter
Jarrett Gentles have been named Student-Athletes of the Month for their performances in January.
Marom had her best month in the pool thus far during the team's January meets with three individual event victories during that span. During the Peacocks' home tri-match against Siena and St. Francis Brooklyn, Marom earned two first-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard backstroke with times of 1:00.52 and 2:11.17, respectively. The freshman also came in second place in the 200 yard freestyle against Lafayette earlier in the month, clocking in at 2:00.46. She contributed to the third-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay and second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay against Monmouth and LIU, as well, to round out her stellar showing in the water last month.
A rising rookie sprinter for an up-and-coming track & field squad, Gentles enjoyed a tremendous month January in the mid-distance circuit. He competed in eight events throughout the month, which included him setting a new personal record in the 400 meters at the METS Championships this past weekend. He clocked in at 49.56, which is the sixth-best time in the event in the MAAC as of today. Gentles also boasts the second-fastest time in the MAAC in the 500 meters (1:04.96), which is also the fastest time for a freshman runner in the event thus far. He accomplished that feat at the Boston University Terrier Classic.
