JERSEY CITY, NJ - Saint Peter's University Athletics has announced that freshman women's track & field sprinter
Vernetta Gosier and fellow rookie men's basketball guard
Aaron Estrada have been named Student-Athletes of the Month for their stellar efforts during the month of February.
Gosier competed in two meets in February and had several tremendous performances. At the Monmouth Collegiate Invite, Gosier earned a top-five placement in the 60-meter dash which consisted of 30 competitors. Her time of 8.01 seconds was among the top-15 best times for the event in the MAAC this year. But that was just a prelude for what was to come at the MAAC Championships at The Armory. Gosier won the 60 meters with a time of 7.80 seconds. In the preliminary round though, she was a split second faster at 7.79, which was the second-best time for the event in the MAAC for the indoor season. Gosier also took a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash by clocking in at 25.28 seconds, which ties her for the fourth-best time in the MAAC for the season. To top it all off, Gosier was a recipient of the Indoor Track Rookie of the Meet Award for her performance.
Estrada was the Peacocks' leader in scoring and assist during the month of February, averaging 12.1 points and 1.8 assists per game. His play helped lead men's basketball to a 7-2 record last month, including a perfect 4-0 mark in the Yanitelli Center. Estrada made starts in all nine contests and was the individual team leader in scoring three times. His stellar play during the month led to three conference rookie of the week awards.
