EDISON, NJ - Redshirt junior
Taiah Thornton has been named to the 2020 All-MAAC Third Team, as announced by the conference office today. The award comes after Thornton's first year of play with the Peacocks, after sitting out the 2018-19 season due to NCAA transfer policy.
Â
Thornton claims the award as the only Peacock this season to have appeared and started in all 29 regular season games for Saint Peter's. The Pennsauken native finished out the season leading the team in points (436), points per game (15), and steals (69). Additionally, Thornton finished the year shooting 42.3 percent from the field and 30.7 percent from beyond the arc.Â
Â
The redshirt junior led the Peacocks in double digit performances this year, scoring 10 or more in 22 out of 29 games played on the year. Thornton's most productive game of the season came against Canisius on Feb. 15, when she put up 30 points for the Peacocks while shooting 50 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from deep, while going a perfect 3-for-3 from the free throw line.Â
Â
Thornton now joins senior
Zoe Pero and sophomore
Briyanah Richardson as the only current Peacocks to have been named to an All-MAAC team, as Pero earned All-Rookie honors in 2016, and Richardson garnered a unanimous vote in the same category last season.
Â
The Peacocks will prepare for the 2020 Hercules Tires MAAC Basketball Championships. The team will play Niagara at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10 in the opening round. Check our
