Dear Friend of Saint Peter's Athletics,
First and foremost, I hope this note finds you and yours safe and healthy. It has been a few months since I last wrote to you, and I know I speak for all of us here in Saint Peter's Athletics when I say that we are so happy to be back. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has kept us in our homes, our Peacock student-athletes, coaches and staff have been busy preparing for another successful year.
After an unprecedented end to the spring semester, our student-athletes continued to
thrive in the classroom. Each of our 16 teams completed the semester virtually, earning at least a 3.00 average team GPA, with a department average term GPA of 3.447. In addition, 70% of our student-athletes achieved a term GPA of 3.50 or above. We are so proud of their hard work and resiliency in the face of adversity!
In addition, the athletics department was thrilled to have recently introduced a
new visual identity and brand. The mission of the rebrand was to create an identity that evokes the hard-working spirit of our community while harnessing the energy of our fan base to build on our established legacy and tradition. The new logos reflect a refreshed and modernized look that showcases the determined and diligent spirit of Saint Peter's Athletics. You can check out all the elements of the rebrand
here!
We are also very excited about the
renovation to The Victor R. Yanitelli, S.J. Recreational Life Center, and thank Tom Mac Mahon '68 for his very generous lead gift. Demolition to the basketball and volleyball arena is well under way and we look forward to the near future when our Peacock student-athletes and fans will enjoy a state-of-the-art facility. You can stay updated on the progress on our
renovation homepage.
During a time of social unrest, together with our MAAC colleagues we have partnered to create the
MAAC United for Justice Campaign which will seek to promote education for social justice and to combat racial injustice. As a league, we hope to raise awareness and support social justice reform. Our Peacock student-athletes will participate in an initiative that will promote voter participation and one that will include a youth reading program focused on Black history. More information about this initiative and a list of what you can expect moving forward can be found on the
MAAC website.
I encourage you to register for the
2020 William J. Murray Peacock Athletics Golf Outing, which will be held this year on Monday, October 19 at Maplewood Country Club. Thank you to all our alumni and friends who have already registered! Your support of this event plays a big part in the advancement of our athletic department. More information can be found
here.
Lastly, we have welcomed our student-athletes back to campus and while our fall sport competition seasons have been suspended through the fall semester, we are preparing for when we will compete again. We remain committed to the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches and staff. Our athletics teams are participating in closely monitored and supervised training sessions that are being done in compliance with MAAC, NCAA, state and local health and safety protocols. I am proud of the resiliency and the effort being put forth by all and I can assure you, when the time comes, we will be ready to compete!
On behalf of our student-athletes, coaches and staff, thank you for your continued support of the Peacocks. I look forward to the day we are all back together.
GO PEACOCKS!
