JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced today the 2020-21 women's basketball conference schedule. The schedule model was designed following last week's MAAC Council of Presidents meeting.
This year's schedule model will see women's conference games played on Wednesdays and Saturdays, allowing for ample time frames for testing among student-athletes and basketball staff in accordance with NCAA COVID-19 testing standards. In the event of game spacing issues, the NCAA will reassess the model once its testing protocols are finalized. At this point in time, fans will not be allowed to attend games through Dec. 23, at which point the MAAC Basketball Working Group will review the policy in accordance with amended local and state regulations.
The 2020-21 league slate for Saint Peter's features a traditional 20-game circuit, spanning just over 12 weeks from Dec. 9 to March 6. The Peacocks will kick off conference play on Wednesday, Dec. 9, against Canisius, and will then travel to Fairfield for a bout with the Stags on Saturday, Dec. 12. The women will return home for their next contest against Marist on Dec. 16 before traveling to hOURglass rival Monmouth on Dec. 19.
After the holidays, the Peacocks will host Niagarafor the final game of 2020 on Dec. 30 before crossing the Hudson to take on Manhattan on Saturday, Jan. 2. They then return to action the following week on Jan. 9 with a home bout against Quinnipiac before embarking on a three-game road stretch, beginning with a trip to Iona on Jan. 13. The team will then travel to Albany to face off against Siena on Jan. 16, and will conclude the road trip against 2020 MAAC Champion and hOURglass rival Rider on Jan. 23.
Following that stretch, Saint Peter's will enjoy a three-game homestand, hosting the likes of Fairfield (Jan. 23), Monmouth (Jan. 27), and Iona (Jan. 30). The Peacocks will hit the road again to open up a three-game away stint that will first see them travel north to Western New York for contests against Niagara (Feb. 3) and Canisius (Feb. 6). before traveling to Connecticut for their penultimate road game of the season against Quinnipiac (Feb. 13).
Saint Peter's then returns home for another three-game home stretch, starting with Siena on Feb. 17 before tackling Rider (Feb. 20) and Manhattan (March 3). The 2020-21 regular season will conclude with a road trip to Marist on Saturday, March 6.
The 2021 MAAC Basketball Championships are set to return to Jim Whalen Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Mar. 9-13.
The non-conference schedule and tip-off times for all games will be announced at a later date.
