JERSEY CITY, NJ – Following last week's decision by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Council of Presidents approval of a 2020-21 schedule model, the league today announced the 2020-21 men's basketball conference slate. The Saint Peter's University men's basketball program and the rest of the league will tip off the MAAC ledger on December 8.
Men's action is set to take place on Tuesdays and Fridays during 2020-21. An additional day between contests allows student-athletes and basketball staffs to be accommodable to NCAA COVID-19 testing standards. Any game spacing issues will be reassessed as soon as NCAA testing protocols are finalized. At this point in time, fans will not be allowed to attend games through Dec. 23, at which point the MAAC Basketball Working Group will review the policy in accordance to amended local and state regulations.
The Peacocks' MAAC campaign features 20 conference bouts during 12 available weeks of league games from December through March. The schedule commences on Tuesday, Dec. 8 with a home contest against Iona followed by a road game at defending conference champion, Siena. In week two, the team returns home for a meeting with Niagara on Dec. 15, before traveling to Marist (Dec. 18) to conclude the week.
After out-of-conference play concludes on Dec. 22-23, the Peacocks will resume their MAAC slate on Dec. 29 at Quinnipiac and open up the New Year at home against Manhattan on Jan. 1. The squad will remain home for a date against Canisius on Jan. 5 before an off day on Friday, Jan. 8. On Jan. 12, Saint Peter's will host hOURglass Rival Rider before the team visits Fairfield on Jan. 15 to close out week five.
The following week will see Saint Peter's welcome Marist on Jan. 19 before visiting West Long Branch for a battle with hOURglass Rival Monmouth on Jan. 22. The men then travel to Iona on Jan. 26 and return home for a date with Siena on Jan. 29 to end the month.
Saint Peter's begins February's docket on the road against hOURglass Rival Rider (Feb. 2) prior to hosting Quinnipiac (Feb. 5). The next road trip sends the Peacocks to Western New York for contests at Canisius (Feb. 9) and Niagara (Feb. 12).
The men's final bye will come on Tuesday, Feb. 16, with the final scheduled home game of the month coming against Fairfield on Feb. 19. Week 11 will serve as an open week that will allow schools to make up any canceled/postponed games due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The final week of the regular season will put the Peacocks on the road at Manhattan on Mar. 2 and the regular season will conclude at home for Saint Peter's when the team tangles with hOURglass Rival Monmouth on Mar. 5.
The 2021 MAAC Basketball Championships are set to return to Jim Whalen Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Mar. 9-13.
The non-conference schedule, venues, and tip times for all games will be announced at a later date.
