The Intro
- The Saint Peter's University men's soccer team continues conference play as they host the Niagara University Purple Eagles on Wednesday.
- The Peacocks are coming off a thrilling 3-3 draw against Rider this past Saturday.
- Sophomore Matt Ellis has scored in three straight games, which is the longest streak of his career.
Series with the Purple Eagles
- Wednesday's matchup will be the 34th meeting between the Peacocks and the Purple Eagles, dating all the way back to 1990.
- The Peacocks have a 17-11-5 record all-time against Niagara.
- The two sides last met in the abbreviated 2020-21 season, with the Peacocks losing in Jersey City by a score of 2-1. Senior forward Brian Carvalhoso provided an assist in that game.
- Prior to last year's matchup, the Peacocks had won two straight against Niagara. They defeated the Purple Eagles in 2019 on the road by a score of 2-1, and also in 2018, winning 4-1 in Jersey City.
Lawrenceville Derby
- The Peacocks took part in an exciting 3-3 draw against the Rider Broncs this past Saturday.
- Ellis and sophomore forward Conlan Paventi scored early in the match, giving Saint Peter's a 2-0 lead after 14 minutes. Ellis also assisted on Paventi's goal.
- Rider came back to tie it up, scoring right before and after halftime. Junior forward Tom Climpson quickly responded less than two minutes later with a goal of his own to give the Peacocks the lead back. Junior midfielder Fabian Schmid was awarded the assist.
- Not only were there a lot of goals, there were also some elite saves as well. Graduate goalkeeper Guillem Badenes Mecho made an incredible save in the 35th minute that was heading for the top corner.
A Look to the Postseason
- The Peacocks currently sit third in the MAAC with ten points after their draw with Rider. They trail first place Monmouth by five points.
- Not including Wednesday's matchup, the Peacocks still play two of the bottom three teams (Quinnipiac and Manhattan) in the current MAAC standings.
- Saint Peter's has already played the other three teams in the top four, posting a 1-2 record against those opponents.
- The Peacocks find themselves only four points clear of the drop zone, as they still have work to do to lock up a playoff berth.
