JERSEY CITY, NJ – Women's basketball redshirt-senior
Taiah Thornton has been named the 2021 Saint Peter's University Woman of the Year award recipient, as announced by the New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (NJAIAW) in conjunction with the university today.
The Pennsauken native serves as the anchor of the Peacocks' women's basketball team, leading the program in scoring this season with 14.6 points per game while also playing a team-high 31.2 minutes per contest. Thornton recently eclipsed the career 1,000-point mark while matching her single-game personal best of 30 points in the team's 59-50 victory over Rider on Jan. 17. A 2019-20 All-MAAC Third Team and 2020-21 Preseason All-MAAC Second Team selection, Thornton has led by example both on the court and in the classroom, earning a spot on last year's MAAC Women's Basketball All-Academic Team.
The NJAIAW honors the outstanding female student-athletes from high schools, colleges and universities throughout New Jersey. Each Woman of the Year recipient has made significant contributions to her institution and community through athletic accomplishments, academic success, and community involvement.
National Girls and Women in Sports Day is a nationwide campaign, which recognizes the achievements of female athletes at all levels of competition.
