March Letter from Our Athletic Director

Dear Friend of Saint Peter's Athletics,

I hope everyone in Peacock Nation is continuing to stay safe and healthy as we hit one year since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

I'd like to take this moment to congratulate our men's and women's basketball teams, who wrapped up their seasons last week at the
MAAC Basketball Championships in Atlantic City. A special shoutout goes to our women's program who reached the championship game against Marist after defeating Iona and Rider! I'd like to thank our men's and women's basketball student-athletes and coaches for their selflessness and dedication throughout this unusual season – neither team had a positive COVID-19 test, and their efforts in staying safe should be commended! I'd also like to congratulate our men's and women's cross country teams for finishing their abbreviated season at the MAAC Championships earlier this month!

As we turn our attention to our spring and fall sports, we have made the difficult decision to instate a
department-wide pause from all activities. Due to a rise in positive COVID-19 tests on campus over the past two weeks, and out of an abundance of caution for the health and well-being of student-athletes, coaches and staff, this pause of all activities will go through March 22. The decision was made in consultation with the university administration, including the Office of Health Services, as well as local and state health officials. You can stay up to date with our composite schedule here.

On behalf of all of us in athletics, I'd like to give
a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to our first ever Peacock Nation Day! We were blown away by the support for our student-athletes – thanks to your generosity, we raised over $30,000! We are so incredibly inspired by and appreciative of the participation and commitment given to our student-athletes. A special thank you goes to Richard Donnelly '67, Robert Donnelly '75 and Sharon Pastore '73 for their generous match challenges!

Registration is open for the
2021 William J. Murray Peacock Athletics Golf Outing, set for June 14 at Maplewood Country Club. The golf outing serves as the department's largest annual fundraiser, with funds raised benefiting all 16 athletic programs. I hope you can join us as we enjoy a day on the course while raising critical funds for our department. You can register for the golf outing here.

As we enter a new season on the calendar, your steadfast commitment to our department and University is greatly appreciated. Thank you to all of Peacock Nation for your continued support of our programs and student-athletes. I look forward to the day when we can all be together again!

Thank you, and GO PEACOCKS!
