EDISON, NJ – Women's basketball freshman
Ajia James has been named an honorable mention in this week's Metropolitan Basketball Writer's Association Player of the Week voting. James earned the distinction following the Peacocks' Feb. 27-28 series sweep over Siena in which the freshman finished with a pair of double-doubles, averaging 13.5 points and 13 rebounds per game. The last Peacock to earn MET Player of the Week was Saint Peter's Hall of Fame member Tania Kennedy on Jan. 7, 2008.
In the initial matchup, James finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds while shooting an impressive 55.6 percent from the floor to aid in the team's 66-58 win over the Saints. The freshman's output only improved in the rematch on Feb. 28 as James posted a team-leading 17 points and 13 rebounds, finishing 61.5 percent from the field to lead the team in a 62-54 victory. The Stafford, Virginia native was dominant on the boards from both ends of the floor against Siena, tallying eight defensive rebounds and five offensive rebounds in each game. The rookie has recorded four consecutive double-doubles and now holds five on the season.
James and the Peacocks return to action this week as the team travels north to Poughkeepsie for their final regular season series at Marist from March 4-5.
