JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Saint Peter's University baseball team and skipper
Lou Proietti have named the team captains for the 2021 campaign.
The senior duo of
Andrew Connor and
Chris Marquart will serve as the captains of the Peacocks for the season.
"We are very excited to announce
Andrew Connor and
Chris Marquart as our captains," said Proietti. "Both have done an outstanding job as leaders on and off the field. They have earned the respect of their teammates and coaches through their hard work, dedication and commitment to the program. They continue to reinforce the type of standards and expectations required to be successful at this level. I am very proud of the men they have become and look forward to watching them continue to develop and help our team compete on a daily basis."
Connor, a native of Nutley, NJ, has appeared in 66 games while making 62 starts through two seasons in Jersey City. During a shortened 2020 campaign, the outfielder ranked second on the squad with five runs scored, four doubles, and nine drawn walks. During Connor's first season with the Peacocks in 2019, he was the team leader in walks, accounting for 22 base on balls.
The unit's primary catcher, Marquart, has played in 77 games during his career in a Saint Peter's jersey. At the plate, he has posted 15 RBI, 12 runs, and a home run at the plate. In the field, Marquart has recorded 291 putouts and has never finished a season with a fielding percentage below 97 percent.
Saint Peter's will begin the 2021 ledger with a series at Iona on March 20-21.
