First Pitch

• The Saint Peter's University baseball team opens the 2021 slate this weekend with a series against Fairfield University.
• Due to impending inclement weather on Sunday, the teams have agreed to a site swap, shifting Sunday's doubleheader in Jersey City to Friday in Fairfield.
• The teams will now play on Friday (Mar. 26) beginning at 11:30am and then the sides will meet in Jersey City for a doubleheader on Saturday (Mar. 27) with first pitch set for 12pm.
• Saint Peter's comes into the new campaign following a shortened 2020 season due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
• During the condensed 2020, the Peacocks snagged an upset win over Rutgers, the first victory over a Power Five Conference team for the program ever.
• The program is seeking its first season opening win since 2016, when that Peacock team knocked off Maryland Eastern Shore, 10-8 during a four-game series in Richmond, VA.
• Fairfield enters the series a perfect 4-0 overall and in conference play this season, following a series sweep of Canisius.

Series History

• Saint Peter's trails the all-time series against Fairfield, 35-96 since the teams first met in 1969.
• The Peacocks have dropped the previous 14 meetings dating back to 2014.
• In 2019 when the sides last met, Fairfield won all three contests at Jaroschak Field.

• Prior to 2014, Saint Peter's won back to back season series over Fairfield in both 2012 and 2013, claiming two out of three meetings in each season.
• The Peacocks last win in the series came on April 7, 2013, with Saint Peter's earning an 11-7 road win.

 
The Captains

• Head coach Lou Proietti named the senior duo of Andrew Connor and Chris Marquart as the captains for the 2021 stanza.

 
Returners

• Entering his second season as the skipper of Saint Peter's, Proietti has a blended combination of upper class and underclass for 2021.
• The Peacocks return 11 letter winners from last season's team with a mix of five position players and six pitchers coming back.
• The position players include: Connor, Marquart, Mike DiPede, Sam Delcollo, and Joey Vitiello.
• The pitching lineup features: Ryan Wappaus, Douglas Hall, Jordan Warecke, Ian Concevitch, Christian Coombes, and Joe Albunia.

 
Newcomers

• 12 student-athletes join Saint Peter's roster in 2021 led by six pitchers, five position players, and one utility.
• The pitchers coming to Jersey City are: Alec Schmitz, Kyle Mahady, Brighton Taylor, James Ferriero, Michael Bonaccorso, and Robert Black III.
• Position player additions will be: Parker Gray, Jake Wagner, Anthony Abbatine, Cristian Perez, and Brad Barkema.
• Serving as a utility player (both a pitcher and fielder) is Matthew Dubois.
