Track and Field Wraps Up Metropolitan Outdoor Championships

NEW YORK 
- The Saint Peter's University track & field teams returned to Icahn Stadium on Saturday afternoon for the second and final day of the Metropolitan Outdoor Championships. The meet concluded with both teams putting together exceptional efforts and setting personal bests in certain events. 

Top Performances: Men
  • Sophomore Jabari Higgs-Salaam continued his dominance in the long jump on Saturday by jumping for 6.88 meters and winning the event.
  • The 4x400 continues to be an event where the Peacocks show their might. Sophomores Jayaire King, Michael Conover, Jarrett Gentles and Clardo Nestor won the race in 3:24.15. The time is currently fourth-best in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
  • Gentles, King and sophomore Jamir Shockley, also swept the top-three spots in the 400 hurdles, with Gentles taking the win in 54.55 seconds. King was runner-up in 55.37 seconds and Shockley took third in 57.40. Gentles' time is third-best in the MAAC.
  • Conover and Nestor put together great efforts in the 800 meters. Conover earned a top-five placement and set a personal record for himself at 1:54.04, which is also sixth-best in the MAAC thus far. Nestor wasn't far behind, finishing in 1:56.92. 
  • Freshmen sprinters Judeson Mirac and Delano Gooden shined in the 200 meters as both came in the top-five and finished back-to-back. Mirac clocked in at 22.54 (0.8) while Gooden crossed at 22.59 (0.8).
  • Graduate student Brandon Campbell earned a top-10 finish in the 100 meters and set a personal record for himself by crossing the line in 11.13 (0.3) seconds. His time is currently fifth-best in the conference.
  • Freshman Ola Porbeni was also in the 100 meters and he too came in the top-10 by finishing in 11.20 (0.3). His time is currently seventh in the MAAC.
  • Sophomore Petrus Benjamin was the runner-up in the 400 meters and broke his previous mark from the Peacock Invite by finishing in 51.27 seconds. His time is seventh-best in the conference.
  • Freshman Jacquel Jupiter made his debut in the triple jump and jumped for 13.69 meters, fifth-best in the MAAC so far.
Top Performances: Women
  • Redshirt sophomore Lorretta Owoh earned a pair wins in both the long and triple jumps. In the long jump, she jumped for 5.26 meters and in the triple jump, she jumped for 11.14 meters. Her triple jump mark is a PR for her and it's also third in the MAAC.
  • Freshman Abigail Vital won the 100 hurdles by coming in at 15.21 seconds, which also surpasses her mark from the first day of the Peacock Invitational. Her time is also fourth-best in the MAAC for the event thus far.
  • Coming in right behind Vital in the 100 hurdles was freshman teammate Alexus Smith, who finished in 15.38 seconds. Smith also beat her time that she had set for herself at the Peacock Invite.  
  • Sophomore sprinter Alexis Peterson took a top-five finish and a personal record in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.92 seconds.
  • Freshman Reyanna Henderson competed in the 400 meters and took a top-10 finish and broke her mark from the Peacock Invite. She came in at 1:03.14.
  • Behind Henderson were sophomore teammates Tola Osipitan and Kaylah Davis, both of whom were also top-10 finishers. Osipitan clocked in at 1:03.69 while Davis finished in 1:05.15.

The Peacocks make their way back to the Garden State and Lincoln Park on Wednesday, April 14, for Day 2 of the Peacock Outdoor Invitational.
