Track & Field Wins First Day of Peacock Outdoor Invitational

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Saint Peter's University track & field teams returned to Lincoln Park on Wednesday afternoon for the first round of the eight-team Peacock Outdoor Invitational. Both the men's and women's teams came out with a statement showing and finished the day atop the nine-team leader board on both sides. The men's team ended up winning the meet with a dominant 63-point performance, 25 points ahead of second-place Manhattan. The women's team also edged Manhattan by seven points (61-54) for the team title. Additionally, several student-athletes put together stellar individual performances.

Top Performances: Men

• Sophomore Jabari Higgs-Salaam was again victorious in the long jump and set a new personal record by jumping for 7.20 meters. The mark puts him in a tie for first place in the event in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) this year.
• Freshman Jacquel Jupiter also took part in the long jump and finished third. He also beat his previous mark from the season opener by jumping for 6.49 meters. 
• Sophomore and MAAC Student-Athlete of the Week, Jayaire King, once again came out on top in the 400 hurdles by clocking in at 55.09 seconds. Not far behind him was sophomore teammate Jarrett Gentles, who finished third in 56.91 seconds.
• Sophomore Michael Conover was the runner-up in the 1500 meters by finishing in 4:15.47. Freshman teammate Devon Bembridge also competed in the event and took a top-five finish when he clocked in at 4:29.57.
• Sophomore Clardo Nestor came in the top-10 in a field of over 25 runners in the 400 meters. He crossed the line in 51.22 seconds which is currently seventh-best in the MAAC thus far.

Top Performances: Women

• Rookie Alexus Smith won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.76 seconds to get the Peacocks started on the right foot. 
• Redshirt sophomore Lorretta Owoh won the long jump and set a PR for herself by jumping for 5.36 meters. The distance is currently seventh-best in the MAAC.
• Freshman Abigail Vital teamed up with the sophomore trio of Alexis Peterson, Deja Bowen and Vernetta Gosier, to win the 4x100 meter relay in 49.88 seconds.
• Sophomore Shelby Piccinic was the runner-up in the 1500 meters by clocking in at 5:05.62. Senior teammate Grace Proctor was also a top-five finisher as she came in at 5:53.89.
• Sophomore Tola Osipitan finished in the top-five in the 400 meters with a time of 1:04.13. 
• Sophomore Nathalie Medina made her debut in the javelin throw and finished second, throwing for 27.52 meters.
