First Pitch
- The Saint Peter's University baseball team will hit the road for the second to last series of the 2021 stanza on Wednesday, May 12, traveling to Buffalo, NY for a twin bill with Canisius.
- The Peacocks will meet the Golden Griffins at 11am and 2pm at Demske Sports Complex in Western New York.
- Saint Peter's improved its overall and conference records to 3-19 following last weekend's series against hOURglass Rival Monmouth.
- The Peacocks scored a 1-0 extra inning shutout win over the Hawks in the opening meeting of the four-game set before dropping the final three for the series defeat.
- Senior pitcher Jordan Warecke earned the complete game decision in the win, upping his season record to 2-3 and lowering his ERA a full 2.0 runs.
- Senior captain Andrew Connor hit the walk-off double, scoring fellow captain Chris Marquart from second for the game-winning run.
- Connor has been the offensive spark for the lineup this season, leading the team in every hitting category except batting average and RBI -- which he is second in both.
- On the mound, Warecke is the team leader in strikeouts and wins, while Peacock ace Ian Concevitch is the staff leader in complete games and holds the team's lowest ERA.
- Canisius brings a 14-10 record into the final week of the regular season, sitting comfortably in the playoff race with just six contests remaining.
- The Griffs are coming off of a 3-1 series win over Quinnipiac last weekend, outsourcing the Bobcats 31-10 over the four games.
Series History
- Saint Peter's and Canisius will meet for the 64th and 65th times when they clash on Wednesday.
- Since the first contests in 1992, the Peacocks trail the all-time series 19-44 against the Griffs.
- When the teams last played back in 2019, Canisius earned a three-game home series sweep of visiting Saint Peter's.
- This will be the Peacocks 10th and 11th straight games in Buffalo versus the Griffs, having traveled to Western New York previously in 2016, 2018, and 2019.
- SPU has dropped 11 in a row to Canisius, last earning a win in 2015 -- also the Griffs last visit to Jersey City -- by way of a 6-4 victory.
- The Peacocks last win in Buffalo was a 2-1 series triumph in 2013, when SPU earned victories in games one and two of the three-game set.
Warecke's Gem (Again)
- Starting right handed pitcher, Jordan Warecke put together another gem on the mound last Saturday against Monmouth, leading Saint Peter's to a 1-0 extra inning complete game shutout of the hOURglass Rival Hawks.
- This was Warecke's first career complete game shutout win, after pitching 8.0 innings with six strikeouts, two walks, and just four hits allowed.
- Warecke claimed his second clean sheet win of the season for Saint Peter's after earning a 3-0 combined shutout win over Marist earlier this season on April 17.
- The senior matched his career-best marks of innings pitched and strikeouts -- which were both set during the win over Marist.
1-2-3 You're (Shut)Out
- Saturday's 1-0 win over Monmouth was the team's third shutout of 2021.
- This is the first time in program history that Saint Peter's has earned three shutout wins in conference games and the first time the program has shutout three separate MAAC opponents in the same season, surpassing the previous marks of two for both records -- shutout Manhattan twice in 1995 and shutout Rider and Siena once each during 2012.
- The three total clean sheet wins for Saint Peter's is the most for the program in almost a decade, having last held three or more total opponents run-less during 2012, when that lineup produced four total shutout wins -- two versus MAAC teams (Rider and Siena) and two in out of conference action (Seton Hall and Savannah State).
Up Next
- Saint Peter's will conclude the regular season this weekend at Manhattan on Saturday and Sunday.
- The weekend series will be played on May 15 and 16 with first pitch set for noon each day.
