JERSEY CITY, NJ – One day after the Saint Peter's University men's basketball program released its non-conference slate, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) today announced the 2021-22 league schedule. The 20-game MAAC ledger for Saint Peter's men's basketball will tip off in early December.
The Peacocks' MAAC slate will commence on Friday, Dec. 3 in Hamden, CT with a road contest against Quinnipiac. Two days later on Sunday, Dec. 5, the team will host two-time defending MAAC regular season champions, Siena in its MAAC home-opener, before welcoming Canisius on Friday, Dec. 31 for the final bout of the 2021 calendar year.
The 2022 calendar year will begin on the road at Marist (Sunday, Jan. 2), followed by a home clash against defending MAAC tournament champion, Iona (Friday, Jan. 7) and a quick turnaround road date against Manhattan (Sunday, Jan. 9).
The following week will serve as rivalry week for Saint Peter's with a pair of games against hOURglass Rivals Monmouth and Rider. Rivalry action starts on Friday, Jan. 14 in Jersey City against the Hawks and ends in Lawrenceville on Sunday, Jan. 16 with the Broncs.
SPU will be away from home in three out of its final four games to end the month of January. The team takes the annual Western New York road trip for contests at Niagara (Friday, Jan. 21) and Canisius (Sunday, Jan. 23). Then, the unit entertains Manhattan at home on Friday, Jan. 28 before closing the month on the road at Iona (Sunday, Jan. 30).
The Peacocks will enjoy a three-game home stanza to begin February, with a trio of games that include Quinnipiac (Friday, Feb. 4), Marist (Sunday, Feb. 6) and Rider (Friday, Feb. 11). Contrarily, the next three contests lined up will be played on the road and feature dates at Fairfield (Friday, Feb. 18), at Siena (Sunday, Feb. 20), and at Monmouth (Friday, Feb. 25). Finally, a home matchup on Sunday, Feb. 27 against visiting Niagara will conclude February's docket.
The lone contest on the agenda for March, also the final tuneup before the conference tournament, will pit Saint Peter's and Fairfield against each other in Jersey City on Saturday, Mar. 5 for the regular season finale.
The 2021-22 campaign will conclude with the 2022 MAAC Men's & Women's Basketball Championships from March 8-12 in Atlantic City, NJ. Historic Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall will once again play host to the championships for the third-straight season.
