NEW YORK - The Saint Peter's University track & field teams returned to competition on Saturday in the Monmouth Winter Collegiate Invitational. The meet was held at the OceanFirst Bank Center in West Long Branch, New Jersey.
Top Performances: Women

Vernetta Gosier started the day off strong on the women's side, capturing victory in the 60 Meters with a time of 8.08. Her teammate in the race, Balikis Iyiola, finished right behind her in second place. Iyiola clocked in with a final time of 8.30.

The strong day for the Peacocks then continued with Alexus Smith, who captured another first-place finish for the Peacocks. Smith placed at the top of the leaderboard in the 200 Meters with a time of 26.59. Similar to the first race, Smith was also joined in the top three by a teammate, with Reyanna Henderson capturing third place with a time of 27.47.

Three Peacocks grabbed top-10 finishes in the 500 Meters, highlighted by the second place performance of Diamond McLaughlin. The freshman continues to reach new heights in her first season, making this time of 1:17.97 her new collegiate best. This time also sets a new top mark for the school this season. McLaughlin was joined by teammates Jasmine Pope (6th, 1:27.91) and KaRynn Hill (8th, 1:29.65) inside the top 10.

Mikell Dolo added to the strong performances of the day, capturing a third-place finish in the 60 Hurdles with a time of 9.40.

Javon Jenkins took the first top-three finish of the afternoon for the Peacocks on the men's side, as he placed third in the 60 Meters with a time of 7.20.

That race was then followed up by a second place finish from Delano Gooden, who set a time of 22.99 in the 200 Meters.

Five Peacocks finished in the top-15 of the 500 Meters, with Jarrett Gentles as the headliner. Gentles finished with a time of 1:07.62, which was good for fourth place. Teammates Hensley Jean-Baptiste (7th, 1:08.32), Isaiah Sanchez (9th, 1:08.64), Petrus Benjamin (10th, 1:09.10), and Bayyan Dallas (11th, 1:09.50) rounded out the rest of the field for the Peacocks.

Coming off of his MAAC Track Performer of the Week honors, Val Augustin had another strong showing in the 60 Hurdles. This week, he placed fourth with a time of 8.51.

Fiyin Amori saw success in the Long Jump, placing eighth with a distance of 6.49m.

A duo of Peacocks competed in the Weight Throw, with Dylan Powell taking fifth place with a distance of 15.95m and Ibrahim Seidou-Bakari taking eighth place with a distance of 14.99m.

The Peacocks return to action over the course of next Saturday and Sunday, when they compete in the MAAC Indoor Championships. The meet will be held at The Armory in New York, NY.
