NEW YORK - The Saint Peter's University track & field teams returned to competition on Friday in the Metropolitan Indoor Championships . The meet was held at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island, where they've now competed for three weeks straight. As was the case at the NYC Gotham Cup and the Great Dane Classic, the Peacocks were successful on both the men's and the women's side.
Top Performances: Men

Val Augustin's first meet as a Peacock proved successful, as he captured first place in the 60 Meter Hurdles with a time of 8.44. He shaved .52 off of his preliminary time in the event to help the first-place finish.

It was also another solid day for Clardo Nestor, who picked up a third-place finish in the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 49.27. This time now stands as his collegiate best as well as the top mark for the Saint Peter's program this season.

Michael Conover was just shy of a top-three finish in the 1000 Meter, grabbing fourth place with a time of 2:30.67. This time is a new collegiate best for Conover, taking two seconds off of his previous fastest time.

A pair of Peacocks finished in the Top-10 of the 200 and 500 Meter races, with Delano Gooden and Quincy Hendy taking sixth and seventh place in the 200 with identical times of 22.62. Jarrett Gentles and Essowedeou Botobikpissi finished in seventh and ninth, respectively, in the 500 with times of 1:06.73 and 1:10.52.

The Peacocks were also able to grab two top-five finishes in the Long Jump, with Michael Ilesanmi taking third place (6.85m) and teammate Fiyin Amori taking fifth (6.51m). For Ilesanmi, this distance of 6.85 now stands as a collegiate best and a best marker for the Saint Peter's program this year.

Dylan Powell returned to action with yet another strong performance in the Weight Throw, taking third place with a distance of 15.93.

Vernetta Gosier kicked off the festivities of the day with a fourth-place performance in the 60 Meter Dash, finishing with a time of 7.93. She followed up that performance with a sixth-place finish in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 26.06. This is the best time in this event for a Peacock this season. Alexus Smith joined Gosier in the 200, claiming eighth place with a time of 26.09. This time stands as her collegiate best in the event.

Diamond McLaughlin once again put forth a tremendous effort in the 400 Meter Dash, taking third place with a time of 58.76. This time now stands as her collegiate best in the event. Jasmine Pope also had a strong showing in the 400, claiming sixth place with a time of 1:00.67. This also stands as Pope's best time in the event, shaving a second off of her previous career best.

A pair of Peacocks finished back-to-back in the 60 Meter Hurdles, as Alexus Smith and Abigail Vital grabbed fourth and fifth place respectively with times of 9.10 and 9.20.

Janai Orders and Iria Paz both competed in the Triple Jump, as Orders finished in seventh place (10.63m) and Paz finished in 12th (10.07m).

The Peacocks return to action next Saturday in the Monmouth Winter Collegiate Invitational. The meet will be held down in West Long Branch, New Jersey at the Oceanfirst Bank Center.
