First Pitch
- The Saint Peter's University softball team looks for its third and fourth straight non-conference victories on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Easton, Pennsylvania, to take on Lafayette College in a doubleheader.
- The Peacocks head into the contest after dropping a pair of close MAAC road matchups Saturday against Fairfield while the Leopards were swept in a three game set over the weekend against Army.
- The two teams met earlier this season in the first weekend of play for the Peacocks, splitting a pair of games in Princess Anne, Md.
Looking Back at Fairfield
- In two back-and-forth games that featured a little bit of everything, SPU came out on the losing end of a pair of contests on the road at Fairfield Saturday, dropping game one 6-4 before falling in game two 5-4.
- Junior Cara McNulty continued her hot hitting at the plate with a hit in both contests including a two-run home run in game one to give her four on the year.
- After a slow start to the season, Brandi Feeney has started to hit her stride offensively going 2 for 5 on the day and hitting her first big fly of the season in the first game.
- Senior Katie Sciglimpaglia extended her hitting streak to five games with a single hit in the first game and two including a double in the second.
- Junior Samantha Miller registered her second multi-hit game in the last three contests in game two of the doubleheader going 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.
- Taylor Rondon came on in relief in game two in the circle and had a strong outing tossing 4.0 innings and only allowing one run on two hits.
Inside the Numbers
- McNulty is the team-leader in batting average hitting .374 and has gone 10 for 20 in her last six contests, currently riding a six-game hitting streak. She currently ranks inside the top-10 in the MAAC in average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, OPS, hits and RBIs.
- Olyvia Smith has also been fantastic at the plate hitting .314 while being a catalyst at the top of the lineup. Smith is the lone Peacock to score 20 runs this season.
- As a team, the Peacocks have now hit 12 home runs this season to top their total from the entirety of the 2021 and 2020 seasons.
- SPU will head into the doubleheader Saturday with 14 wins, the most victories since recording 22 in the 2007 season.
- In the circle, freshman Kasidy Slusser leads the team with a 3.32 ERA in her first season in Jersey City. Her five wins are the most for an SPU pitcher since Erica Colon had five in the 2014 season.
Up Next
- The Peacocks will return to Joseph J. Jaroschak Field Saturday for a doubleheader against Rider University before taking on Monmouth University in a doubleheader Sunday. Both contests will start at 12:00 p.m.
