Senior Day Capped Off By Strong Performances at the Jersey Relays

NEWARK, N.J. - The Saint Peter's University track & field teams returned to action for their fourth meet of the outdoor season on Friday at the Jersey Relays. The Peacocks celebrated Senior Day with a plethora of tremendous finishes .

 

Top Performances: Men

  • A total of nine first-place finishes on the men's side was capped by an IC4A/ECAC qualifying time in the 4x400. Delano Gooden, Clardo Nestor, Michael Conover, and Quincy Hendy teamed up to take the gold medal while also capturing the aforementioned IC4A/ECAC qualifying time of 3:14.65 in the event. This time is now the season best in the 4x400 for Saint Peter's.

  • Gerardo Quaglia was able to capture first place in the 3000 Meters with a time of 10:06.03 for his first ever collegiate win.

  • The Peacocks grabbed two top-three finishes in the 400 Hurdles. Jarrett Gentles placed first with a time of 55.67 and Lovens Lormilus placed third, clocking in at 1:05.47. For Lormilus, he finished just .1 seconds off of his personal record in the event. 

  • The relay teams continued their dominance, claiming victory in every type of event on Friday. Similar to the aforementioned first-place finish in the 4x400, the relay teams were also able to claim first place in the 4x100, 4x200, and 4x800. In the 4x100, Kyle Estivene, Judeson Mirac, Javon Jenkins, and Delano Gooden captured first place with a time of 43.57. In the 4x200, Delano Gooden, Isaiah Sanchez, Kyle Estivene, and Quincy Hendy took first place with a time of 1:29.97. Lastly, in the 4x800, the team of Clardo Nestor, Devon Bembridge, David Szaro, and Michael Conover grabbed first place with a time of 8:13.70.

  • The Peacocks swept the podium in the Long Jump courtesy of Michael Ilesanmi, Fiyin Amori, and Devon Bembridge. Ilesanmi placed first with a distance of 6.93m. Amori finished second with a distance of 6.50m. Lastly, Bembridge claimed the bronze with a distance of 6.39m. This is the first time in Bembridge's collegiate career that he has competed in the Long Jump.

  • Amori's day was not done there, as he went on to claim the gold medal in the Triple Jump with a distance of 13.49m. This now stands as a collegiate best distance for him in the event. 

  • Dylan Powell placed the finishing touch on the day for the Peacocks, claiming victory in the Hammer Throw with a distance of 46.55m.

Top Performances: Women

  • An IC4A/ECAC mark was also attained on the women's side, with Diamond McLaughlin capturing gold in the 400 Hurdles with a time of 1:01.93. This time now sets a new collegiate best mark for McLaughlin as well as the Peacocks team on the season.

  • The relay teams for the women were just as successful as the men, with three first-place finishes. In the 4x100, the team of Balikis Iyiola, Mikell Dolo, Alexus Smith, and Vernetta Gosier claimed victory with a time of 49.23. Next, in the 4x200, both Saint Peter's squads took first and second place. The team of Alexus Smith, Vernetta Gosier, Abigail Vital, and Diamond McLaughlin took first place with a time of 1:44.03 and the team of Jasmine Pope, Balikis Iyiola, Mikell Dolo, and KaRynn Hill claimed second with a time of 1:51.67. Lastly, in the 4x400, the team of Jasmine Pope, Diamond McLaughlin, Alexus Smith, and Abigail Vital captured first place with a time of 3:55.07.

  • Iria Paz broke 5 personal records over the span of her afternoon on Friday, with a silver and bronze medal to show for it. In the Long Jump, Paz finished with a distance of 5.21m which was good for second place. In the Triple Jump, her distance of 10.98m netted her third place in the event. 

  • Janai Orders also had a good day in both events, finishing just outside the top three in both. Her distances of 4.16m in the Long Jump and 10.50m in the Triple Jump placed her fourth in both events. 

Up Next

The Peacocks will return to action over the course of next Friday and Saturday when they participate in the Penn Relays. The event takes place from April 29th-30th in Philadelphia, PA at Franklin Field.
