JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Saint Peter's University track & field teams returned to action for their fifth meet of the outdoor season over the past three days at the Penn Relays. The historic event returned after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Peacocks relay teams took advantage with strong showings.

The team of Balikis Iyiola, Alexus Smith, Abigail Vital, and Vernetta Gosier finished second place in the heats with a time of 48.08 to qualify for Saturday afternoon. The Peacocks once again put forth a strong effort in the finals, but fell short of the winner's podium with a fourth place finish. They finished with a time of 47.83 in the finals, as the top four teams were separated by just 1.06 seconds.

Both 4x400 teams on the men's and women's side for the Peacocks qualified for the finals on Saturday afternoon. For the women's team of Abigail Vital, Diamond McLaughlin, Alexus Smith, and Jasmine Pope, they finished fourth in the heats with a time of 3:56.36. In the finals, they finished in fifth with a time of 3:55.14. For the men's team of Isaiah Sanchez, Clardo Nestor, Jarrett Gentles, and Quincy Hendy, they finished seventh in the heats with a time of 3:15.08. In the finals, they again finished seventh with a time of 3:16.52.

On Thursday, Diamond McLaughlin participated in the 400 Hurdles and finished in 28th place with a time of 1:03.54.

Michael Ilesanmi participated in the Long Jumps, placing 15th with a distance of 6.71m.
Up Next
The Peacocks will return to action next Saturday and Sunday when they participate in the 2022 MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The event takes place from May 7th-8th in Lawrenceville, NJ at the Michael P. Brady Track & Field Complex.
