Hackett’s First Career Goal Pushes Women’s Soccer Past Marist

JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's University women's soccer defeated Marist 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman forward Alyssa Hackett scored her first career goal in the contest as the Peacocks reached three wins on the year. That number matches their win total from the 2021 season.

Game Notes

  • Freshman goalkeeper Olivia Mackethan was called into action early, making her first save of the game in the eighth minute.
  • The Peacocks first chance came from freshman forward Gianna Grassifulli at the ten minute mark, but her attempt was saved.
  • Saint Peter's struck in the 32nd minute off of a long throw-in. Freshman defender Samantha Garcia took the throw from the right side line even with the 18 yard box, and threw a long ball that was headed on by Grassifulli. Her header found the foot of Hackett and after a scramble in the box, she struck the ball with her left foot into the back of the net to put the Peacocks ahead.
  • The score would remain 1-0 at the break.
  • After both teams had attempts missed wide to start the half, Marist's best chance came in the 61st minute, as one of their players had a clear shot on target from just outside the box. Mackethan stopped the shot and corralled the rebound to avoid any danger.
  • Graduate defender Brooke Boutchie had an attempt saved from a free kick in the 67th minute.
  • The Red Foxes tried to apply pressure late, but the Peacocks were able to hold on and secure their second conference win of the season.
