BRONX, NY. - The Saint Peter's cross country team competed at ECAC/IC4A Championships at Van Cortlandt Park on Friday.
Diamond McLaughlin led the Peacocks in the women's 6K. She finished the race in 29:26.7. This marked the third consecutive meet that McLaughlin has been the highest placed finisher for SPU. McLaughlin was followed by Mikayla Surles (30:27.3), Madeline Castillo (35:59.0), and Michele Cherono (38:22.8). The SPU women's cross country team placed 36th overall.
Northeastern placed first overall in the team standings. NU's Abigal Hassman finished the race first with a time of 20:39.1
On the men's side Brendan Heaney, Connor Ziolkowski, Ryan Fernandes, and Diego Ruiz all ran in the men's 8K. Heaney was Saint Peter's highest finisher. Heaney placed 95th with a time of 30:54.7. Heaney was followed by Ziolkowski, who finished the race in 32:11.1. Fernandez finished the race at 97th (32:11.2) , closed out by Ruiz at 98th (32.29.6). Princeton finished the race first overall in team standings.
Next, the Saint Peter's cross country team travels to Montgomery, New York for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships. The meet will take place between all eleven MAAC schools on Saturday Oct. 28.
