JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Saint Peter's University women's basketball program has announced Tay Hughes and
Elena Pulanco as new assistant coaches for the 2023-2024 basketball season.
Hughes, who was a standout on Saint Peter's women's basketball team from 2014 to 2018, returns to Jersey City to coach the program she once played for. On January 26th, 2018, Hughes
passed 1,000 career points against Monmouth. She finished her college career with a total of 1,042 points.
Following her undergraduate studies, she earned a Master's of Public Administration degree at Saint Peter's. In addition to her playing career, Hughes has experience as a grant writer and development professional for various non-profits in the metropolitan area. Last season, she was an assistant coach at Hudson Catholic, where she helped the Hawks reach the Quarterfinal Round of the North Jersey, Non-Public A section.
Pulanco was on staff for Saint Peter's women's basketball as the Director of Basketball Operations since September 2022. Prior to arriving in Jersey City, Pulanco was a
point guard for Wofford College's women's basketball team from 2018 to 2022. During her playing career, she assisted her coaching staff by producing film clips and training videos for the
entire team to study.
Addditionally, Pulanco was also the co-president of the Wofford Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) from May 2021 to May 2022. She was an active member of the Wofford
Asian and Pacific Islander organization, where she served as the organization's vice president. Currently, Pulanco is currently working toward earning her Master of Arts in Sports Industry
Management at Georgetown University.
