Peacocks Soar in Season Opener at Knights Invitational

Standout Performances in Sprints and Jumps Highlight Strong Start

HACKENSACK, NJ- Saint Peter's track and field team kicked off its indoor season with a series of top finishes at the Knights Invitational, including a dominant display in the men's 60m final, where graduate student Delano Gooden and junior Cashieve Blair claimed the top two spots. Junior Amari Campbell also shined in the men's long jump, earning second place with a personal best.

 

JUMPS AND THROWS
In the men's long jump, Saint Peter's claimed three top-ten finishes. Campbell placed second overall and PR'd with a distance of 7.10m. In seventh was sophomore Temiloluwa Adesetan (6.52m), and in tenth was Cristian Armstrong (6.13m). Felician's Devin Jones took first place with a distance of 7.42m.

On the women's side for long jump, The Peacocks also claimed three top-ten finishes, freshman McKenzie Johnson placed sixth with a distance of 4.76m. Following behind her in seventh was senior Ayanna Paige (4.73m), and in tenth was freshman Ana DeVries (4.42m). FDU's Amiyah Williams took home first with a distance of 5.47m.

The men's shot put team (7.26KG) saw two top-ten finishes, sophomore Adebusuyi Shittu took fourth and PR'd with a distance of 11.88m, and senior Derek Garcia secured tenth with a distance of 9.51m. Darien Cade from FDU placed first with a distance of 13.77m.

The Peacocks also secured two top-ten finishes in women's shot put (4KG) from freshman Alyana Meador (fifth, 10.95m) and sophomore Kennedy Vaughn (sixth, 10.84m). Sophomore Nilaja Wiltshire from FDU claimed first with a distance of 13.96.
 

RUNNING
Saint Peter's dominated the men's 60m final, sweeping the top five spots in a thrilling display of speed. Crossing the finish line first was Gooden with a time of 6.84, following 0.01 seconds behind him was Blair (6.85). Right on their tail were sophomore Omari Owens-Jones (6.94), Campbell (6.97), and freshman Ameen Zubair (7.00).

In the Men's 300m, The Peacocks saw another trio of top-ten finishes. Senior Hensley Jean Baptiste took home first (35.67), and freshmen Dylan Williams (38.43) and Zubair (38.46) placed sixth and eighth.

The men's 4x400m team, which is made up of Ziolkowski, Peck-Wekunda, freshman Solomon Dunham, and Adesetan, claimed second with a time of 3:32.5, FDU took first in 3:28.86. 

The women's 300m saw four top-ten finishes. Leading the charge and taking first was senior Diamond McLaughlin, with a time of 42.85. Taking fifth was freshman Shania McDuffie (44.72), in eighth Samyah Wilson (45.93), and tenth junior Shannelle Vilson (47.58).




The Saint Peter's track & field team will have some time off before its next meet of the indoor season. The Peacocks travel to the 168th Street Armory in New York, NY, for the Ramapo Invitational on Jan. 17.
