Box Score Norfolk, Va.- Saint Peter's Baseball outlasted Norfolk State University, 16-14, on Saturday afternoon at Marty L. Miller Field.

- Tyler Smith played hero when he stepped to the plate in the top of the ninth and delivered a grand slam that gave Saint Peter's a 16-12 lead.
- Norfolk State threatened a late comeback with two runs in the ninth, but the Peacocks sealed a thrilling road win.
- The first pitch was delayed three hours after inclement weather impacted the area in Norfolk.
- When the game finally began, Saint Peter's got off to a hot start with a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Â
- Norfolk State responded immediately with a five-run bottom of the first inning. Â
- Ashby Vining gave the Peacocks the lead again with a two-run home run in the top of the third. Saint Peter's led Norfolk State, 6-5.
- That was Vining's second home run of the game. Â
- In the bottom of the third, Norfolk State gained a 7-6 advantage following an RBI single from Collin Curry and a sacrifice fly from Manny Jackson.
- Brendon Wilson drove in two runs with a left field single in the fourth inning. Saint Peter's led by one run, 8-7.
- Norfolk eventually took an 11-8 lead in the fourth.
- Saint Peter's tied the game 11-11 when Tyler Cotten smacked a double in the top of the seventh.
- Jalan Jones' sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the eighth put the Spartans up by one run, 12-11.
- Smith's home run secured an important win for the Peacocks.
- Coach Grant Neary's squad moved to 3-7 with the win.
Saint Peter's will be playing the final game of the series against Norfolk State on Sunday at 12 p.m.
