BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Saint Peter's Softball team was defeated in the third game of its three-game series at Canisius 3-2 on Sunday at the Demske Sports Complex.
The Peacocks tallied five hits and the Griffins had seven in an errorless game. Canisius' Gianna Fazolari hit a home run in the bottom of the third inning. Fazolari finished the game 2-4 with 1 RBI.
Saint Peter's responded in the top of the fourth inning. Cara McNulty singled through the left side followed by Dakota Pitts, who singled up the middle. Kayla Talbert pinch-ran for Pitts. Jess Forte brought in Talbert and McNulty on a two-RBI double. The SPU junior has hit six doubles this season and 17 in her career. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Christie McGee-Ross gave the Griffins the lead with a two-run home run. Down 3-2 in the top of the seventh, Kaylee Lacomb got a base with a single but the Griffins prevented the Peacocks from scoring and sealed the game.
Saint Peter's pitcher Angelina Wagner started the game and went three innings, gave up one earned run, and tallied four strikeouts.
Saint Peter's moves to 12-17 and 2-4 in MAAC play. This week the Peacocks return to Jaroschak Field for a three-game series against Quinnipiac (10-13, 1-5 MAAC). SPU hosts the Bobcats in a doubleheader on Tuesday, Apr. 9 with the first game at noon. The series concludes with a game on Wednesday, Apr. 10 at noon.
