NEWARK, N.J. - The Saint Peter's volleyball team snapped a 36 match losing streak as the Peacocks soared past the NJIT Highlanders in a five-set thriller to open their 2024 season. The Peacocks notched their first victory since 2022 and their first road win since 2019.
In the opening set, Saint Peter's trailed 14-11 but roared back with four straight points to pull ahead 15-14. The teams traded points but the Peacocks pushed ahead 23-20, taking the opening set 25-23. The Highlanders controlled the second set, leading 15-9, en-route to a 25-14 win to even the match.
Saint Peter's fell behind 14-8 in the third set but once again ripped off six consecutive points to even the score at 14. The Peacocks pushed ahead 20-17 and held on to take the third set 25-20. Saint Peter's once again rallied back in the fourth set, coming within an eyelash of victory with leads of 26-25 and 27-26 before falling 29-27 to head to a deciding set.
The Peacocks found one more comeback, trailing 10-6 but flipped the script with six straight points to pull ahead 12-10. Saint Peter's salvaged victory four points later as sophomore

Skye Graham recorded a match-deciding block to secure the victory 15-11 and the match 3-2.

The Peacocks return to the court as they head to the Friar Classic next weekend for three matches. They open up with host Providence on Friday, September 13 at 2:30 pm.
