JERSEY CITY, NJ–The Saint Peter's cross country team gears up for the ECAC/IC4A Championships this Friday, October 17, at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, NY. The first gun is set for 11:30 a.m.
The Peacocks enter the meet on a high note after a strong showing at the Metropolitan Championships, where 10 athletes recorded personal bests. Freshman
Earl Hart led the way with a standout performance, finishing 16th overall in a field of 74 with a time of 25:34.7, trimming nearly a full minute from his previous best.
Also setting new marks on the men's side were
Sebastian Lopez (26:08.1),
Gerardo Quaglia (26:18.0),
Johan Aparicio (27:45.0),
Jack Cabrera (28:13.0), and
Christopher Hernandez (28:27.0).
Matthew Martinez made his season debut, clocking 26:28.0.
On the women's side,
Shirleysa Rivas paced Saint Peter's with a 49th-place finish in 19:51.0, improving by more than two minutes from her time at last year's METS.
Paulina Nunez (23:32.0) and
Shanelle Vilson (30:26.0) also posted personal bests, each shaving over a minute from their previous marks.
LAST YEAR AT ECAC/IC4A
At last year's ECAC/IC4A Championships, Quaglia was the highest placed Peacock of the day, completing the 8k in a time of 27:40.4. Micheal completed the race, clocking in at 31:06.0, with
Kenneth Montes crossing the finish line in 34:23.3. George Mason University claimed first place, with Wesley Bond from GMU taking first with a time of 24:29.0.
For the women, Rivas once again led the way, clocking 27:09.7 in the 6k, with Nunez finishing in 32:08.4. Yale claimed the team championship, and Fairfield freshman Hannah Snayd won the individual title in 20:41.9.
