JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Saint Peter's women's basketball team suffered their first conference loss of the season with a tough 27-67 final score against Quinnipiac on Monday, Dec. 29 at Run Baby Run Arena in Jersey City, N.J. This loss is now the 25th all time victory for the Bobcats against the Peacocks.
Freshman
Jayshlynn Vega put in the leading effort with 10 points and being the iron women playing a full 34 minutes.
De'Naya Rippey also had a solid effort of eight points and six boards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER: Vega earned the first points for the Peacocks on a trip to the free throw line and later a mid-range jumper. With the solid shooting from the Bobcats, the Peacocks found themselves down 3-12 halfway through the first.
Layla Laws converted on a solid drive to the lane to snap a Peacock scoring drought heading into the media timeout. However, an impressive run made by the Bobcats after the timeout gave them a huge lead to end the first with a score heading into quarter number two of 7-25.
SECOND QUARTER: The second quarter began with a monster run from the Bobcats, holding the Peacocks to without a score for the first six minutes, going on a 13-0 run halfway through the quarter. After a Rippey basket to end a massive Peacock drought, the Bobcats continued to pour on baskets. Leading to a halftime score of 9-42 in favor of Quinnipiac.
THIRD QUARTER: Just like the first, it was Vega again getting the scoring going for the Peacocks with a free throw and 3-point basket. Rippey also added to her total with a pair of tough baskets inside. Following a turn around jumper by Rippey, the Peacocks ended the third quarter on a high with the score entering the fourth 19-54.
FOURTH QUARTER: Carys Roy knocked down the first basket for the Peacocks with a basket inside the paint. Roy added another bucket to her total with another basket inside the paint and added one more point at the free throw line. Heading into the media timeout, the Peacocks had lowered the deficit to a score of 24-57. Coming out of the media timeout, Vega scored on a long 3-point basket, the final points for Saint Peter's ending the game with a score of 67-27.
