NEW YORK, NY– The Saint Peter's track and field programs closed out their semester with another impressive outing at the Armory Collegiate Distance Carnival Friday morning, combining for eight podium finishes. Freshman
Brian Yeager headlined the day with the Peacocks' lone gold medal in his 800m debut, while senior
Ciara Brown and freshman
Lourdes Lawson delivered matching 2-3 finishes in both the shot put and weight throw.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Brown and Lawson opened the meet with a silver-bronze sweep in the shot put. Brown threw 11.10m, followed closely by Lawson at 10.93m. Bridgeport's Fiona Richards won the event with a mark of 13.52m.
Alyana Meador also posted a season best of 10.79m.
In the long jump,
Chloe Montgomery landed just 0.04m off the podium, placing fourth with a personal-best 5.24m. Columbia's Madison Williams claimed gold in 5.63m, with Albany's Nya Thomas (5.49m) and Marissa Gordon (5.28m) rounding out the top three.
Brown and Lawson repeated their podium pairing in the weight throw--Brown hitting a personal best of 14.66m, and Lawson reaching 12.09m in her event debut. Richards once again edged out the field with 16.44m. Meador added an 8.70m mark.
On the track,
Karilynn Jimenez and
Angela Owusu-Ansah had strong performances in the 200m, with both sprinters securing a spot in the top ten in a race where the top three clocked in under 26 seconds. Jimenez surged to second place in 25.76, just 0.08 off Albany's Grace Murray (25.68). Owusu-Ansah clocked 27.10 for ninth.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Amari Campbell opened the men's events with a silver in the long jump, hitting 6.83m, just 0.02m shy of Columbia's Tyler Yen.
On the track,
Ameen Zubair, Niles Thony, and
Dylan Williams all finished inside the top ten in the 60m. Zubair led the way with a personal-best 6.99 for silver—the only other sub-7 performance in the field. Thony finished fourth in 7.09, just off the podium, and Williams placed sixth in 7.21.
The 200m featured another trio of strong finishes.
Neo Clark-Tabb took fourth in 22.34, a mere 0.01 from bronze. Zubair followed in 22.63 for fifth, and Thony added a seventh-place 23.03. Albany swept the top two spots, with Bridgeport's Kamal Abdul-Aziz taking third.
Yeager closed the meet with the performance of the day, dominating the 800m in his collegiate debut. The freshman averaged 28-second splits to stop the clock at 1:51.11, finishing 0.36 ahead of Albany's Connor Hashim.
UP NEXT
Saint Peter's will have a month-long break before returning to action on January 9 at TCNJ's Lions Indoor Invitational, hosted at the 168th Street Armory in New York. The first gun is set for 10 a.m.
