JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Saint Peter's women's basketball team is back in action this weekend and faces a heavy series on the road against Siena on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 2 pm ET and then Monday, Jan. 19 at 1 pm ET against Iona. For the Peacocks they will enter this two game road trip before returning back home next week. The last time Saint Peter's walked onto the court, it was in a heartbreaking loss on Saturday, Jan. 10 against Mount St. Mary's 51-55. Despite the hard defeat, the Peacocks performed exceptionally well, particularly with the bench stepping up massively and scoring 40 points.
Carys Roy was the star with a team high 15 points, five rebounds, and four steals.
Layla Laws also with a breakout performance of 13 points and four boards, to go along with 50.0 percent shooting from the floor. The highlight was the fantastic second quarter for Saint Peter's, where the Peacocks scored 16 points and shot 60.0 percent from the field.
Onto the Saints first, Siena comes into the contest looking to get back on track after being defeated to Sacred Heart on Wednesday, Jan. 14 by a score of 58-70 in enemy territory. The season for the Saints has been highlighted by the incredible work of Franchesca Schiro, the three time MAAC Rookie of the Week has been the driving force for this offense, scoring an impressive 15.8 points per game for Siena, ranking third in the MAAC and the most among freshmen. Her 32 points scored against Niagara is the second highest by any player in the MAAC this season. Nicole Melious also with a strong campaign for the Saints, the Seton Hall transfer has averaged 10.9 points per game and has been a solid shooter from the outside, with a 28.2 percentage from three, ranking 21st in the MAAC.
For the Gaels, Iona comes in on a three game winning streak, with the last contest being against Merrimack on Wednesday, Jan. 14 in a 58-51 victory. The stars for the Gaels have been the tandem of Isabellah Middleton and Zoey Ward. Middleton has averaged a solid 13.4 points per game and Ward is right behind her with a 13.2 average, ranking 8th and 9th in the conference for scoring. In fact, the Gaels currently sit at an average of 60.4 points per game, the fifth best by any team in the MAAC this season.
The Peacocks look to snap a six game losing streak to Siena, and a seven game losing streak to Iona. Last time out against the Saints, the Peacocks were defeated 60-68 in Loudonville. And for the Gaels, the last matchup was an Iona victory 40-42 in New Rochelle. All MAAC contests will be streamed on ESPN+
