JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Saint Peter's women's basketball team prepares for a road conference matchup against Mount St. Mary's on Saturday, Jan 31 at 2 pm ET in Emmitsburg, MD.
This contest is the rematch from early January where the Mountaineers claimed victory with a 55-51 final score. In that previous contest,
Carys Roy showed up and showed out for the Peacocks. Roy scored 15 points and led the Peacocks with five assists and five rebounds. In fact, the productivity from the bench was extraordinary, scoring 40 points from the reserves alone. The other leaders came from
Layla Laws and
Jayshlynn Vega who both combined for 25 points.
The Peacocks since then have gone 2-2 in their last four games with the last game being a 55-46 victory over Rider.
De'Naya Rippey had another career defining game, with a new personal best of 26 points along with leading the team on the glass with nine rebounds, all while shooting 50.0 percent from the field. This performance is her second straight game of scoring 20 or more points while also having a 50.0 field goal percentage. The play from Rippey and Roy in the month of January has been sensational as every game in the month had one of the two stars score in double digits.
The Mountaineers come off a tough defeat to Merrimack at home 68-81 last Saturday. The loss now puts Mount St. Mary's at an overall record of 9-11 with a 5-6 record in the MAAC. Gabrielle Kennerly has been the leading scorer for the Mountaineers averaging 15.1 points per game and getting it done on the defensive side averaging 2.3 steals per game.
The overall record between both schools sits at seven wins and nine losses for Saint Peter's against Mount St. Mary's. This and all MAAC contests will be streamed live on ESPN+
