Peacocks Sweep Niagara in Battle of the Birds

JERSEY CITY, N.J.- Peacocks (3-12, 3-1 METRO) get their third conference win of the season as they beat Niagara in three sets (25-14,25-19,35-33) 

Saint Peter's recorded 50 kills, four aces and 42 digs to shut down Niagara on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED-
SET ONE-

Saint Peter's would strike first with a six-point run, starting with a kill from Addison Baglio, with Niagara answering back with three points in quick succession.

The Purple Eagles' streak would come to an end following an attack error to keep SPU in the lead.
​
Valeria Pagan Munoz would get herself on the board to extend SPU's lead to 8-4.
​
Niagara tried to answer with a run of their own but was stopped by three kills from Victoria Pruvost as the Purple Eagles struggled to respond.
​
Karolina T. Rodriguez Mendez  continued where she left off earlier in the week by adding a kill and a block to her line to help extend the Peacocks' lead at 17-9.
​
As Niagara's struggles continued, Julia Whaley made her presence felt as she got a block and a kill to close out the set at 25-14 in the Peacocks' favor.

SET TWO-
The Purple Eagles would start the set with a two-point run, with the Peacocks answering back with a kill from Mendez.
​
With Niagara having a 3-1 lead, Munoz would get a kill followed by an attack error and a bad set to tie the set at 3-3.
​
Both The Peacocks and The Purple Eagles would go point for point as neither team gave the other any breathing room till Baglio and Pruvost both got a kill apiece to push Saint Peter's ahead.
​
With Saint Peter's applying pressure, Niagara would call their first timeout of the set following Alondra Fargas serving an ace and forcing an attack error.
​
After the timeout, the Purple Eagles would put up two kills to cut the lead to three, Baglio answered back with a kill of her own that would slip past the defenders' hands.
​
The Peacocks would continue their scoring barrage with Niagara getting a total of four kills as the match sat at 18-14.
​
Pruvost would get her eighth kill of the game to extend the lead to four. Shortly after, a kill from Baglio and a service error would force Niagara to call their second and final timeout of the set.
​
With Niagara using their final timeout, Mendez and Pruvost would commit the final blow to close out the second set at 25-19 with two kills.

SET THREE-
Similar to the second set, Niagara would open up the scoreboard with a 3-1 lead over the Peacocks, which was cut to a one-point lead as Munoz got a kill.
​
Niagara's offense would come to a halt as Mendez would get another kill following an ace by Fargas and the Purple Eagles getting two attack errors to push SPU ahead.
​
Markela Tsagkopoulou would get her first kill of the evening to extend Saint Peter's lead.
​
Saint Peter's would continue to extend their lead with a kill by Whaley and another attack error going into the media timeout.
​
Following the timeout, Munoz would get her 10th kill of the match following two consecutive plays with assists coming from Zumra Yavuz and Pruvost.
​
Niagara would begin coming back with a three-point run to cut the lead to 22-17, with the Peacocks answering back with a kill by Tsagkopoulou.
​
The Purple Eagles would tie the match at 24-24 with an ace and then take the lead at 25-24 from an attack error.
​
SPU answered back with a kill from Whaley to tie the game, in addition to Baglio getting a kill to take the lead back from Niagara at 26-25.
​
As both teams went back and forth, it was an ace from Munoz to put Saint Peter's up 35-33 to send The Purple Eagles home.


UP NEXT- 
Peacocks are back at home tomorrow to wrap up the weekend as Canisius comes into town on Oct. 3rd at 1 p.m.
