JERSEY CITY, N.J.- The Peacocks (4-12,4-1 METRO) grab their third win in a row as they take down Canisius in four sets (25-19,25-22,16-25,26-24)
Saint Peter's stepped up to the challenge as they recorded 69 total points, 58 kills, and 55 assists to put the Griffins away.
HOW IT HAPPENED-
SET ONE-
The set opened up with an attack error from SPU followed by a service error from Canisius.
Addison Baglio got the first kill of the match after an assist from
Alondra Fargas. The Griffins got a kill of their own to make it 4-2.
Following two kills from Canisius, Baglio would get her second kill of the game with
Drew Leonardis getting the assist.
Fargas forced two attack errors to help Saint Peter's take the lead.
The Peacocks began to pull away as Baglio,
Valeria Pagan Munoz, and
Victoria Pruvost continued to put on a show with four kills split between them.
Canisius would go on a three-point run to cut into SPUs' lead but was interrupted by a service error to keep the set at 16-13.
Karolina T. Rodriguez Mendez got her first kill of the match, followed by two more kills from Baglio.
With set at 20-16, the Griffins tried to get back into the game with two kills, with their momentum getting shut down as Munoz got a kill to keep SPU ahead.
Munoz would call the set by getting a kill, with it ending at 25-19.
SET TWO-
Fargas would force an attack error to start the set, with the Griffins getting two points to take an early lead.
Canisius' lead did not last long, with Munoz and
Julia Whaley getting a kill each to give Saint Peter's the lead.
Following a service error in SPU's favor, the Griffins would add two kills to take the fourth lead change of the match.
The Peacocks would begin to pull away with a kill from
Natasha Tejada, making it her first kill of the match.
The Griffins and SPU would continue to go kill for kill with multiple lead changes till Canisus forced an attack error to close the set at 25-22.
SET THREE-
The Peacocks started the set off strong with a seven-to-four run, with the Griffins struggling to find an answer.
Saint Peter's would put up 11 more points to push the set to 18-12, with Baglio and Pruvost getting their fair share of kills.
Fargas would serve an ace and force an attack error to push the lead to 23-14; soon after, Munoz would get a kill that would slip past the Canisius line to make it match point.
The Griffins added two points to the board, but Munoz would close out the set again with a kill to end it at 25-16.
SET FOUR-
The Griffins would open the set with a 3-1 lead till Baglio interrupted their run with a kill, which would lead to SPU going on a six-point run.
Pruvost would get another kill to extend the lead to four points, followed by the Griffins responding with a kill.
Pruvost added another kill to force Canisius to call their first timeout of the set.
Saint Peter's continued to lay on the points, with the Griffins answering back till it was tied at 24-24 from a kill by Canisius.
Munoz and Pruvost would put an end to the set as they would both get kills, with Pruvost getting her 16th of the afternoon to send Canisius home at 26-24.
