Saint Peter’s Wraps Up MAAC Championships with Strong Final Day

Nunez earns bronze while relay squads post top-10 times in school history

GENEVA, OH–The Saint Peter's swimming and diving program spent Valentine's Day closing out the 2026 MAAC Championships. Six Peacocks punched tickets to the finals, highlighted by Juan Nunez securing his second medal of the week with a bronze finish in the 1650 freestyle, recording just the second sub-16 minute time in program history.

Fairfield University swept the Championships, with the women claiming their fifth title while the men's made history claiming its first crown in program history. The Stags became just the second straight program – sixth overall – in league history to sweep both team titles. Saint Peter's finished eighth on the men's side and 11th on the women's side.

WOMEN'S RESULTS
Paige Austin-Burrows advanced to the finals of the 200 butterfly with a personal-best time of 2:04.82, moving into second place on the program's all-time list. She finished 13th overall in the finals with a time of 2:09.04. Sacred Heart's Sophia Velleco claimed gold in 2:02.84, followed by Marist's Sabrina Conrad (2:03.51) and Fairfield's Callie Gray (2:03.68).

Francesca Solano Vargas finished fourth in the C final of the 200 backstroke, claiming 20th overall in a personal best of 2:07.34, the fourth fastest time in program history. Niagara's Natalie Killion won the event in 1:57.38, the only sub-two-minute performance. Iona's Reagan O'Brien (2:00.73) and Fairfield's Chloe Wukitch (2:01.42) rounded out the podium.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Austin-Burrows, Eloise Schirtzinger, Elettra Dalcerri, and Madison Petricevic finished in 3:36.10, recording the fourth-fastest time in program history. Niagara claimed gold in a MAAC-record 3:26.94, followed by Fairfield (3:25.10) and Marist (3:25.26).


MEN'S RESULTS
Juan Nunez opened the final session by earning his second medal of the championships, capturing bronze in the 1650 freestyle. He became just the second Peacock in program history to swim under 16 minutes, shaving more than 15 seconds off his previous best with a time of 15:51.06.

Patch Robinson competed in the C Final, placing 17th in 16:26.31. Marist's Oscar Bjering won gold in 15:39.33, while Niagara's Jordan Grab earned silver in 15:48.16.

Ean Vellescig and Victor Fuentes represented Saint Peter's in the 200 breaststroke, with Vellescig finishing 16th in 2:05.21 and Fuentes placing 20th in a personal-best 2:05.83.

The 400 freestyle relay quartet of Robinson, Jeff Thompson, Nunez, and Ashton Smith closed the meet by posting the eighth-fastest time in program history, finishing in 3:06.03. Iona (2:58.78), Niagara (2:59.18), and Rider (2:59.77) claimed the top three spots.
