Peacocks Fall In Road Clash To Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, CONN - The Saint Peter's women's basketball team was defeated in a road conference matchup to the Fairfield Stags 30-62.

The Peacocks started the contest slow but quickly rallied behind a big second quarter that saw Saint Peter's go on a 12-0 run. De'Naya Rippey continued her excellent season with another outstanding performance, leading the Peacocks with 12 points and grabbing seven rebounds as well. Another big highlight was the work done on the glass by Saint Peter's with a total 32 rebounds collected to win the rebounding battle.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER:
The Stags started out the first half hot with scoring, going on a 10 point run to open up. After a media timeout, it was Eszter Turi earning the first basket for the Peacocks on a drop step layup inside the paint. After a five point swing by Fairfield, the Stags remained on top with a 2-15 lead. However, the Peacocks did not go down without a fight as the defense tightened up and held Fairfield scoreless for the remainder of the quarter.

SECOND QUARTER: Rippey scored the first point for Saint Peter's on a trip to the free throw line, cashing in on one of her attempts. The Stags responded with their own six point swing to make the score 3-24 heading into a media timeout. And it was at the timeout the turning point of the first half for Saint Peter's. Rippey scored five straight points on a triple and driving layup. Louella Allana added to the run with a 3-pointer of her own from the corner right in front of the Stag bench. And Rippey added four more herself on a pair of layups inside to total to a 12 point Peacock run. The seemingly unstoppable run ended after a layup inside and last second deep 3-pointer by Fairfield with only two seconds remaining on the game clock, to send the game into the half with Saint Peter's gaining momentum with a 15-29 score after the first half.

THIRD QUARTER: Carys Roy opened up the second half with a spinning hook shot inside to get the first Peacock basket. Roy followed up again with another spinning hook shot inside. After a pair of mid range buckets, the media timeout saw the Stags still in front with the Peacocks looking to rally with a 19-35 score in favor of Fairfield. After the media timeout, it was Sierra Patricio who scored the first points for Saint Peter's on a free throw. Rippey added to the total with a pair of free throws of her own. After a few scoreless minutes, Roy silenced the Stags crowd on a drop step and-1 layup. Patricio followed up with a layup of her own inside. And with another defensive stop by Saint Peter's, the once massive lead by Fairfield had been shrunk to a 26-42 score after the third quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER: Patricio knocked down the first basket of the fourth on a drive to the lane and floating the ball up to go clean through the net. The Stags responded with scoring six straight points before the run ended thanks to a Layla Laws basket inside. Heading into the media timeout, the Stags remained out in front with a 30-54 lead. After a triple coming out of the timeout by Fairfield, Saint Peter's held the stags to a scoreless next few minutes. However, after an insurance triple by the Stags, both teams went scoreless for the final two minutes, ending the game for Saint Peter's in defeat with a 30-62 final score.
