Saint Peter’s Falls to Marist in Saturday Doubleheader

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-- The Saint Peter's softball team (3-12, 0-5 MAAC) fell to the Marist Red Foxes (13-12, 7-0 MAAC) in Saturday's doubleheader at Softball Park at Gartland Athletic Field, dropping the contests 3-0 and 8-0. Hannah Klotz and Angela Tremarco both recorded multi-hit days, with Klotz adding her second extra-base hit of the season and Tremarco tallying her second multi-hit performance this month.

Saint Peter's struggled to bring runners home, leaving a combined 15 runners on base on 10 hits, while Marist stranded eight runners on 17 hits. The Red Foxes also hit four home runs on the day to extend their conference win streak to seven.

Despite the results, Morgan Lipansky (1-4) pitched a complete game in the opener, striking out five while holding Marist's top of the lineup hitless (0-for-9). The Peacocks also held the Red Foxes to their third-lowest scoring game in MAAC play this season in game one.

WHAT  HAPPENED
GAME ONE

Marist opened the scoring in the second inning with a two-out double down the left field line. The Red Foxes followed with a single to left field to bring the runner home.

Marist added to its lead in the fourth with back-to-back home runs to go ahead 3-0.

Saint Peter's best scoring chance came in the sixth inning when Hannah Klotz doubled down the left field line. A groundout moved her to third, but a pop-up and strikeout ended the threat as Marist secured the 3-0 win.

GAME TWO
Marist scored two runs in the third inning off a double, a single, a Peacock error, a stolen base, and a sacrifice fly.

The Red Foxes broke the game open in the fourth with five runs, highlighted by a home run along with three singles, four stolen bases, two walks, and a wild pitch to extend the lead to 7-0.

Saint Peter's threatened in the fifth with a single from Kiana Kadena Matsuda and a double from Kayla Foy, but the Peacocks could not capitalize.

Marist walked it off in the sixth with another home run to secure the 8-0 victory.
