NEWARK, N.J.- The Peacocks could not mount a comeback against NJIT in their 4-8 loss at Yogi Berra Stadium on Friday afternoon.
Saint Peter's (0-9) struggles started early against a strong NJIT (5-6) defense till the seventh inning where they began a comeback that was shut down in the top of the ninth.
Despite the defeat
Alex Manent had a good performance with seven hits and a .833 slugging percentage followed by
RJ Azarieh with five hits of his own.
HOW IT HAPPENED-
The Peacocks struggled to put up runs in the first inning, but NJIT started off strong with three runs. The Peacocks answered back in the second inning with a run of their own from a hit by Steve Polizzi, sending Azarieh to home plate.
Saint Peter's put a strong defensive effort in the third stopping NJIT. Even with the strong defense from he Peacocks The Highlanders would go on to score four unanswered runs going into the seventh inning where SPU had three runs of their own with
Allen Ramos, Polizzi and Azarieh running to home to start a comeback. NJIT would add one more run to the stat sheet at the bottom of the seventh.
Both teams began to struggle till the end of the game leaving no runs to be scored in the eighth and ninth inning.
