PISCATAWAY, NJ– The Saint Peter's track and field teams gear up for the Outdoor ECAC/IC4A Championships track meet at the Bauer Track & Field Complex, hosted by Rutgers University, April 18-19.
LAST TIME OUT
The Peacocks put together another strong set of performances at the Rutgers Relays track meet, combining for five podium finishes–including a sweep of the 4x200m relays. The men's team finished ninth overall, while the women placed 12th.
The men's 4x100m relay earned the first podium finish of the day, sprinting to bronze in a season-best time of 42.10. The 4x200m relay followed with the first gold of the day, finishing nearly three seconds ahead of second place and over 10 seconds clear of the field in 1:28.18.
Cashieve Blair delivered a historic performance in the 400m, earning gold while breaking a 45-year-old program record. His time of 46.81 made him the first Peacock in program history to dip under 47 seconds.
Blair continued his momentum in the 200m, capturing his second gold and second school record of the day with a time of 20.74, breaking his own mark set earlier this season.
His performance earned him MAAC Track Athlete of the Week honors for the third consecutive week.
The women's 4x200m relay also raced to gold, finishing over six seconds ahead of the field in 1:45.13.
Lourdes Lawson led the field events with a seventh-place finish in the shot put (12.58m).
COMPETING PEACOCKS
The men's team will be represented by
Favour Owolabi, Adeiza Albert, Michael Amaker, Johan Aparicio, Amari Campbell, Neo Clark-Tabb, Solomon Dunham, Desrick Hemans, Malique Jackson, Michael Odins, Ajani Peck-Wekunda, Gerardo Quaglia, Niles Thony, Dylan Williams, Brian Yeager, Connor Ziolkowski, and
Ameen Zubair.
Owolabi, Clark-Tabb, Hemans, Jackson, Odins, Peck-Wekunda, Yeager, and Ziolkowski will compete in the 400m. Albert and Ziolkowski will race in the 400m hurdles, while Amaker, Peck-Wekunda, and Yeager will represent the Peacocks in the 800m.
Clark-Tabb, Jackson, Thony, and Williams will compete in the 200m, while Quaglia will be the lone Peacock in the 1500m. Thony and Zubair will represent Saint Peter's in the 100m.
Campbell will be the only field representative for the Peacocks, competing in the long jump.
Saint Peter's will also field three relay teams. The 4x400m relay will consist of Owolabi, Peck-Wekunda, Ziolkowski, and Yeager, with Jackson, Odins, and Amaker as alternates. The 4x100m relay will feature Zubair, Thony, Hemans, and Clark-Tabb. The 4x800m relay will include Dunham, Hemans, Peck-Wekunda, and Ziolkowski, with Aparicio as an alternate.
The women's squad includes
Mercedes Cruz-Fletcher, Dezoara Diaz, Karilynn Jimenez, Adriana Rollins, Shanelle Vilson, and
Samyah Wilson.
Cruz-Fletcher and Rollins will compete in the 100m hurdles, while Rollins and Diaz will race in the 400m. Rollins will also compete in the 400m hurdles and triple jump.
Jimenez and Vilson will represent the Peacocks in the 100m, while Jimenez and Wilson will compete in the 200m.
The Peacocks will also field two relay teams. The 4x100m relay will consist of Cruz-Fletcher, Jimenez, Wilson, and Vilson, while the 4x400m relay will include Jimenez, Diaz, Vilson, and Rollins.
PREVIEWING SOME OF THE COMPETITION
Manhattan
Manhattan has competed in four meets this outdoor season, including the Hurricane Invitational, Ramapo T&F Invitational, Metropolitan Championships, and Bucknell Outdoor Classic.
At the Metropolitan Championships, the women captured gold in the 4x100m relay (47.75), while sophomore Oliviah Hussey placed second in the 100m (12.05). Kayla Darius added a second-place finish in the long jump (11.55m).
On the men's side, Thomas Bonsignore placed third in the 400m hurdles (57.28). The Jaspers also saw four top-10 finishes in the long jump, highlighted by Ivan Lytovchenko's first-place mark of 6.97m.
The women finished third overall, while the men placed second.
LIU
LIU has competed in three meets this outdoor season, including the UCF Black & Gold Invitational, Monmouth Home Opener, and Metropolitan Championships.
At the Metropolitan Championships, the men claimed two event wins, with Walid Jarfani taking first in the 1500m and Brian Masai winning the 800m. Joshua Roos and Ryan Bailor also added podium finishes.
On the women's side, Tianna Stewart led the way with a second-place finish in the hammer throw, while Abigail Jefferies and Victoria Franciamore added top-five finishes.
The women placed seventh overall, while the men finished fourth.
Fordham
Fordham has competed in multiple meets this outdoor season, including the Metropolitan Championships and Rutgers Relays.
At the Metropolitan Championships, the women earned two event wins, highlighted by Quincy Biddle in the 3000m steeplechase (11:05.68) and Zoe Arakelian in the high jump (5'5").
On the men's side, Noah Rubenstein placed second in the shot put (47' 7¾") and third in the discus (140'11").
At the Rutgers Relays, Eric Schleif led the way with a second-place finish in the 1500m (3:56.10), while the women's 4x200m relay placed second in 1:51.06.
LAST YEAR AT ECAC/IC4A CHAMPIONSHIPS
Three Peacocks qualified for last year's ECAC/IC4A Championships:
Connor Ziolkowski, Shania McDuffie, and
Karilynn Jimenez.
McDuffie and Jimenez competed in the 100m prelims, narrowly missing qualification for the finals. McDuffie placed 10th (11.99), while Jimenez finished 11th with a personal-best time of 12.05.
On the final day, Ziolkowski placed fifth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.4.
McDuffie and Jimenez later competed in the 200m, both finishing inside the top 15. McDuffie placed ninth with a personal-best time of 24.74, while Jimenez finished 13th in 24.89, also a personal best.
