New Rochelle, N.Y.- The Peacocks (4-32, 0-18 MAAC) lose in a close game against conference rival Iona (14-18, 10-7 MAAC) to conclude their three-game series on Sunday afternoon.
Marcus Monroe pitched for Saint Peter's for four innings, where he faced 25 batters and allowed eight hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED-
Saint Peter's struggled at the plate as Iona put in a strong offensive effort by putting up five total runs in the second and third innings.
Iona would go on to score three more runs between the fifth and sixth innings. The Peacocks would answer back with four runs in the bottom of the sixth, starting with a Schwartz single to center field, sending Joey Dwyer home. Next was a Max Doninger single up the middle, scoring two RBIs from Schwartz and Steve Polizzi. Finally, to end the inning, it was a single to right field from Allen Ramos to send Alex Manent to home plate to end the bottom half at 4-8.
Saint Peter's would add one more run in the bottom of the eighth from a throwing error from the catcher, allowing Schwartz to run home.
Iona would hold SPU to zero runs in the ninth inning, ending the game as a 5-8 defeat for The Peacocks
