RINGOES, N.J. - The Saint Peter's men's golf team has finished a pair of tournaments with excellent results over the weekend. Both of these matches are the final stop before the Peacocks will travel down to Florida for the MAAC Championships beginning next Tuesday, Apr. 28.
In both tournaments, being the Roar-EE Invitational and the Ridge Shootout, the top scorers for Saint Peter's were the same, with dominant performances by
Chad Maurer and
Jeffery Yong. Not only did both golfers lead the Peacocks, they also both placed within the top 25 in overall performance, with the pair finishing in a tie for ninth place at the Ridge Shootout.
Roar-EE Invitational
Despite both Yong and Maurer finishing with the same score of one over par, it was the first round performance by Yong that stole the show. Yong finished round one with a four under par score, knocking down three birdies in his front nine and added two more in the back nine. Maurer similarly started strong, going two under par in the first round of the tournament. The second round of his performance was still strong in spite of the score, with an even par back nine that included a pair of back to back birdies.
Another strong performance came from
Shiv Manhas who also finished within the top 50 with a two over par score. Unlike the performances by Yong and Maurer, Manhas made his statement in round two, with an excellent par performance, highlighted by an incredible hole 11 where Manhas scored an eagle, and combined with a birdie hole on 16 led to a par performance for the second round, jumping him up 11 spots to finish 35th overall.
The other scores from the Roar-EE Invitational were
Christopher Hannan (+4),
Jack Hennelly (+13), and
Mohit Sanagavarapu (+21). All together the Peacocks wrapped up the tournament with a 14th place team finish.
Ridge Shootout
Maurer and Yong both led the Peacocks again at the Ridge Shootout. With Yong being the clear leader in round one, finishing the round in fourth place before Maurer in round two climbed three spots up to tie for ninth place.
Four more Saint Peter's golfers would end the tournament with ties, with Hennelly and Hannan both finishing 13th overall as they joined Yong and Maurer inside the top 20, ending the tournament with a score of +17. Another pair that tied for the Peacocks was Manhas and Campanella who placed 29th, with the duo combining for five birdies. The highlight of the day was Sanagavarapu in the second round on hole six, who knocked in an eagle on his way to a 20th place finish. The final performance of the day was by
Brennan McCabe who finished 37th overall, as the Peacocks ended the day as a team placing fourth.
