PHILADELPHIA, PA– The Saint Peter's track and field teams are set to compete at the Penn Relays athletics meet, presented by Toyota, with three relay squads and standout long jumper
Amari Campbell representing the Peacocks at Franklin Field. The 17-athlete group will compete across the three-day meet beginning Friday afternoon.
LAST TIME OUT
Saint Peter's competed at the Outdoor ECAC/IC4A Championships, where the women finished 18th and the men placed 17th.
Amari Campbell secured a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 7.29m.
The men's 4x100m relay quartet of
Ameen Zubair, Niles Thony, Dylan Williams, and
Neo Clark-Tabb earned the highest finish for Saint Peter's, placing fifth overall in a time of 42.40.
The women's 4x100m relay team of
Karilynn Jimenez, Samyah Wilson, Dezoara Diaz, and
Shanelle Vilson placed seventh overall in a season-best time of 49.16.
Jimenez also posted a season-best time of 25.39 in the 200m, finishing inside the top 15.
COMPETING PEACOCKS
Saint Peter's will enter the men's 4x400, 4x100, sprint medley relay, long jump, and a women's 4x400 and 4x100 relay, all with their sights set on first-place finishes.
The 4x400m relay squad returns to defend its title in the College Men's 4x400m CTC division.
Ajani Peck-Wekunda is the lone returner from last year's winning group and is expected to join
Favour Owolabi (leadoff),
Cashieve Blair (second leg), and
Brian Yeager (anchor).
The quartet currently ranks first in the conference following its winning performance at the Metropolitan Championships (3:13.47) and is scheduled to compete Friday at 8:35 p.m.
Saint Peter's will also compete in the Sprint Medley Relay Championship of America. Blair is set to run the 400m leg, with Owolabi and
Neo Clark-Tabb handling the 200m legs, and Yeager anchoring in the 800m. The race is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m.
The 4x100m relay will make its Penn Relays debut in the College 4x100m heats.
Ameen Zubair will lead off, followed by
Niles Thony, Dylan Williams, and Clark-Tabb. The event is set for Friday at 1:45 p.m.
In the field,
Amari Campbell will represent the Peacocks in the Long Jump Championship. The event begins Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
On the women's side, the 4x100 team looks to come back to Penn Relays, competing in the College Women's 4x100 College (Heats).
Karilynn Jimenez and
Samyah Wilson were a part of the quartet that ran last year, and this year the Peacocks add
Dezoara Diaz and
Shanelle VIlson to the lineup.
The squad currently ranks ninth in the conference and a team season-best following their performance at the ECAC Championships (49.16) and is scheduled to compete Friday at 1:15 p.m.
The 4x400 is set to debut this weekend, competing in the College Women's 4x400 CTC division.
Adriana Rollins will lead off, followed by
Angela Owusu-Ansah, Diaz, and Jimenez. The race is scheduled for Friday at 7:55 p.m.
LAST YEAR AT PENN RELAYS
Amari Campbell secured a top-10 finish, placing eighth overall with a jump of 6.79m on his fourth attempt–just five and a half inches shy of his season-best mark at the time.
On the track, the women's 4x100m relay team of
Karilynn Jimenez, Samyah Wilson, Balikis Iyiola, and
Shania McDuffie narrowly missed qualification, finishing 11th overall in 48.88—just 0.07 seconds short.
In the Men's Sprint Medley Relay Championship of America, Saint Peter's squad of
Ameen Zubair, Connor Ziolkowski, Ajani Peck-Wekunda, and
Michael Amaker finished 20th overall with a time of 3:35.27.
To close out the weekend, the men's 4x400m relay team of
Hensley Jean Baptiste, Ajani Peck-Wekunda, Ameen Zubair, and
Connor Ziolkowski captured first place in the College Men's 4x400m CTC division with a time of 3:19.27. The mark stood as a season best and ranks among the top 10 times in program history.
The remainder of the Saint Peter's track and field team will have the weekend off as they prepare for their final tune-up before the MAAC Championships at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational.
