BROOKLYN, NY–The Saint Peter's softball team (7-38) fell 14-1 to LIU (19-30) in a single-game non-conference matchup Tuesday afternoon at LIU Softball Complex.
The Peacocks struggled on both sides of the field, managing just one hit while allowing 13 earned runs. Despite facing a strong Sharks defense, Saint Peter's struck out only twice and found ways to get runners on base, but could not capitalize offensively.
Hannah Klotz recorded the lone hit of the afternoon, finishing 1-for-2, while
Paige Seemon scored the Peacocks' only run.
Cessi Prince (0-3) was credited with the loss.
WHAT HAPPENED
LIU opened the scoring early with a six-run first inning. Three walks, a stolen base, and two singles gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead before Saint Peter's recorded an out. Two fielders' choices, a Peacock error, another walk, and a single up the middle extended the lead to 6-0.
Hannah Klotz knocked a one-out single up the middle in the second for the Peacocks' first hit of the game.
The Sharks added another run in the bottom half of the inning with a pair of leadoff walks and a one-out double to push the advantage to 7-0.
LIU continued to pour it on in the third, scoring seven more runs. The Sharks plated three runs before the Peacocks could record an out and added four more before the inning ended on a strikeout and flyout, taking a commanding 14-0 lead.
Saint Peter's got on the board in the fourth.
Paige Seemon reached first on a passed ball and advanced to second after a hit by pitch. With two outs, a LIU fielding error allowed Seemon to come home, cutting the deficit to 14-1.
The Peacocks were retired in order in the fifth, securing the victory for LIU.

Saint Peter's has a quick turnaround, heading to Teaneck, NJ, for its final road matchup of the season, a rematch against FDU at the FDU Softball Complex. First pitch is set for 3 p.m., with game two to follow at 5 p.m. Both contests will be streamed on NEC Front Row.
