Peacocks Swept By Merrimack In Final Home Series

JERSEY CITY, N.J.- Saint Peter's (5-44,1-26 MAAC)  dropped both games against Merrimack (23-26, 17-10 MAAC) to conclude their final home series of the season.

James Ellis started game one for the Peacocks, where he was on the mound for two innings, facing 21 batters with 10 hits allowed. As for game two, Marcus Monroe started for three innings and faced 17 batters, and allowed seven hits.

Bobby Lavely and Ellis Reid had a performance with both of them adding homeruns to their line, with Reid's homer coming from his first time at bat in game two. 

​HOW IT HAPPENED-

GAME ONE
The Peacocks would struggle at bat for two innings, with Merrimack taking a nine-run lead going into the bottom of the third inning.

Saint Peter's would get their first three runs from a Lavely homerun to right field, sending Alex Manent and Allen Ramos to score.

The struggles would continue for SPU with the Warriors adding one more run at the top of the sixth.

The Peacocks would go on to hold Merrimack to only one run in the top of the ninth and were unable to produce at the bottom of the inning, ending the game as an 11-3 defeat for Saint Peter's.

GAME TWO
Merrimack would open the scoreboard with two runs at the top of the first inning, with Saint Peter's responding with a run of their own from a Steve Polizzi hit to left field, sending Manent to home.

The Warriors would add one more run at the top of the second with the Peacocks responding with a Ried homerun at the bottom of the inning.

​Merrimack would add on to their lead with a run in the third inning while holding SPU to zero runs in the bottom of the third. 

Saint Peter's would answer back with a strong defensive effort at the top of the fourth, holding the Warriors to zero runs while adding a run of their own from a Max Doninger grounded ball, giving Luke Schwartz time to score.

​Merrimack would go on a six score run between the fifth and eighth inning while holding the Peacocks to zero runs going into the bottom of the eighth. Doninger would try to help start a comeback by adding two RBIs to his line from a single to left field, followed by Bobby Lavely  adding an RBI from a hit to left field.

​Saint Peter's struggled to continue with the momentum going into the bottom of the ninth and were unable to complete the comeback, ending the game as an 11-6 loss for the Peacocks.

The Peacocks are heading to Sonny Pittaro Field to face Rider for their final three-game series of the season, starting on Thursday, May 14th at 3 p.m.
